Scenic Schuylkill Century (Philly) PreRegistration deadline is fast approaching

Pre Registration ends on August 22. After that date, you can still "late" register, but will not be entitled to receive this year's gifts (a pair of quality cycling socks and a reflective safety band).

So why not register today, and join 1,000 fellow cyclists on Sept. 13 for a picturesque tour through some of the most beautiful and quiet roads Philadelphia, Montgomery and Chester Counties have to offer. Choose from 25, 38, 65 and 100 mile marked routes. Features breakfast at the start, 4 fully stocked rest stops, a pizza bash at the finish, SAG/mechanical support and early registration discounts. Check it out at http://www.phillybikeclub.org/centur...omepage_08.htm. Email any questions to century@phillybikeclub.org.

(The link in the e-mail you sent to the BCP mailing list is also bad.)

No problem. It looks like a good ride. I need to check my calendar, but I am probably going to sign up, so thanks for the heads-up about the deadline.

I just realized that I posted to comments on last year's Schuylkill Century thread. Excuse the repetition, but here it is again:

Being the co-chair of this year's event, I just looked at all the comments, both good and bad. A couple of tidbits on what I saw.

Yes, there will not be a detour on the Perkiomen/Schuylkill River Trail as the bridge work is complete.

I too wish we could do better in Valley Forge Park. We were about to get approval to actually take one of the loops within the park for the benefit of those not from the area (to see the encampments, etc.). We essentially had a verbal approval, but didn't submit once we heard the same no signs, no marking rules. It would have been more confusing than our current route, so we didn't want to chance people getting lost more than usual. lol.

For those taking the SRT back to Philly, 9 1/2 miles from Betzwood (which has bathrooms) is Spring Mill Station. There are two porta-johns just to the left of the trail, very visable.

Regarding the area in Chester county where we had issues in the past (part of only the century route), we got a message from the Chief of Police of West Vincent that if we mark the roads we will be issued a citation. I think residents may have blacked our marking out in the past and for whatever reason have complained to the township.

We will put up signs that day, and hope they are still there when riders come by. We will also hand out a mini cue sheet of that area at the rest stop that is just prior to heading to W. Vincent. There are only about 7 turns or directional indications, so hopefully people can simply follow the cue and not expect to follow road markings.

Incidentally, the rest stop in that area has been the Ridge Fire Station in the past. They are hosting an event this year (how dare they), but we've secured a church .4 miles down the road that has great faciliites. It also gives you a chance to pray for strength. In re-routing the ride to get there, we cut out a few miles so our 100 mile ride that has been about 107 miles, is now about 102 miles. At that distance, most of us appreciate a few miles less in our centuries.

Please keep the discussion and comments flowing. I'll check in and update everyone or answer questions as needed. Have a great ride, y'all.

1. Harold, am I correct that you extended the pre-registration deadline to tomorrow, August 29?

2. I signed up for the 65 mile ride, but I'm giving serious consideration to trying the 100 mile. (I've ridden about 175 miles so far this week, so I think I'm probably ready to try 100 miles in a single day.) Is it possible to change my decision as to which route to follow on the day of the ride, or even during the ride?

Yes, pre-reg. with gift is extended until tomorrow. After that, you still have until 9/8 to pre-register, but its without gift.
Absolutely can change your distance. The main reason reason we ask is so we can properly allocate food and volunteers at the rest stops. The moment of truth is the around the 38 mile mark, where the 65 and 100 go in different directions. Unfortunately, early enough to feel good then, and suffer later. Good luck whichever route you choose. Howard

Out of towner first timer here- what's the SRT, or should I care? (I'm doing the full route)
Will there be enough riders so I won't get lost alone in Chester County?

SRT is Schuylkill River Trail. I'll probably be leaving the marked/cued route and riding the SRT.

BTW - Harold, the last two weekends that I went through Spring Mill, those porta-cans were padlocked...they're not much use to anyone.
