Wiped out on DC-Mount Vernon MUP 8/19

Tues eve about 7 pm I crashed hard just north of the sailing center near the airport. Several people stopped, called an ambulance, gave me water and retrieved my bike from the woods. I wound up in Innova Fairfax Hosp. trauma center and got great care. I have three or four cracked ribs and a punctured lung. I spent the night in the hospital, got back to meetings on wed. and now I'm back home on L.I., NY.

I'd like to thank whoever it was that stopped to help me, it would be neat if it was a fellow BF'r and they saw this message. If any of you happened to be there, thanks.

and did you happen to pick up my glasses? wearing sunglasses at night is getting to be a pain.

Thanks to all, fellow bikers, EMT's, Nurses and Doctors that got me back on my feet.

    Brian

    Sheesh...

I wasn't one of the ones who helped, but considering how close the trees are to the trail around there, I'm glad you're even able to type already.

Damn man. I saw that someone wiped out today. I rode past, and they were loading a bike into a police car, and the guy was being loaded into the ambulance. This was just South of Memorial Bridge. Don't know if he was riding on the trail or on GW parkway.

Glad to hear that you're doing OK and that you received good care from everyone.

You know they actually took my bike into the ambulance, and Fairfax hosp brought it into my room in emergency. When they admitted me to a room they put a patient tag on the bike and locked it up in the garage. I retrieved it when they discharged me. They were very helpful about the whole thing.

Glad you are feeling better. Those curves in that area can come up really fast.

That is one heck of a injury to go back to work with so quickly. Glad to hear you are ok, and its good to hear that their are nice people in the world willing to help. I always ask people if they need help if they are stopped, but I have yet to come across someone that crashed. Best wishes on getting better.

Brian, Glad you're going to be OK, but you will be sore for a long time. I broke one rib a month ago from a crash and it still hurts like hell. Can you tell us what caused the crash?

Leaving the trail at a high rate of speed! LOL, ouch it still hurts when I laugh.

Seriously, I don't remember what led up to it. I may have been passing or avoiding someone, that is a very busy path with people going much faster and much slower than I was, I was averaging about 17mph, just above the sailing center there is a little hill with two quick turns, I missed the second turn at the bottom of the hill. The only part I remember clearly was getting hit with branches, trying to stay upright and suddenly being flat on my back howling in pain.

The bottom line is, I was going too fast for a path that I am not that familiar with.

That is great to hear that you had one less thing to worry about; above all glad you're ok!
