I am moving to Stamford in a couple weeks for a job. Are there any good cycling paths or people that go riding frequently around here? Riding so close to the shore is going to be a welcome change for me.

There is a club called the soundcyclists (www.soundcyclists.com) which is mentioned above who put on rides weekdays and weekends from May thru October for all levels of riders. Most of the rides are out of various commuter parking lots along the Merritt Pkwy and I95.
Here are the levels of rides which they do and this coming weekends rides to get an idea of what they offer. If you join then you will access to a very extensive ride library of rides all over lower fairfield county.

A group
Very Fast – 20+ MPH (Avg, 25+ MPH flat road speed)
Vigorous riding with excellent bike handling skills, expected cooperative
contribution to group within abilities. No sweep, possible regrouping.
Riders are expected to navigate on own if dropped.
B group
Fast – 17-19 MPH (Avg, 22+ MPH flat road speed)
Brisk to vigorous riding with above average bike handling skills, expected
cooperative contribution to group within abilities. No sweep, possible
regrouping. Riders are expected to navigate on own if dropped.
B- group
Fast – 16-17.5 MPH (Avg, 20+ MPH flat road speed)
Brisk to vigorous riding with above average bike handling skills, expected
cooperative contribution to group within abilities. No sweep, possible
regrouping. Riders are expected to navigate on own if dropped.
C+ group
Moderately Fast – 14-16 MPH
Moderate to brisk riding with good bike handling ability. Some
cooperative pacelining skills required. Riders are expected to be selfsufficient
but there will be some regrouping. A sweep may be appointed.
C group
Intermediate – 13-14 MPH
Moderate riding with more attention to scenery.
Regroups often. A sweep is usually appointed.
D group
Slow/Intermediate – 11-13 MPH
Leisurely to moderate riding, sightseeing and destination oriented.
Regroups often. A sweep is always appointed.
E group
Slow – Less than 9-11 MPH
Ride is paced to the slowest rider.
A sweep is always appointed.

Weston-Easton Ramble, B, R/H, 45 miles, EAP 18.0-19.0
mph, 8:45/9:00 a.m. RL: . Meet at I-95 Exit 18 CPL. Scenic
tour of Weston and Easton on familiar roads. A few
short, steep hills in the middle of the ride with flat to
rolling sections at the beginning and end. About
2,700 feet of climbing gain. which is a below-average
amount for area rides of this length. SR

President’s New Member Ride, B-/C+/C/D/E, F/R, 22
miles, 9:45/10:00 a.m. RL: Meet at Westport RR station
parking lot adjacent to Luciano Park, I-95 Exit 17.
Come join the President of SCBC and meet new
members and some not-so-new members. The D/E
route will be shorter and head towards Norwalk.
Social hour with coffee and food on the club at Doc’s
coffee shop immediately after the ride. FR

New Canaan, Purdys, Ridgefield and Return, B, R/H,
51 miles, EAP 17.5-18.5 mph, 8:45/9:00 a.m. RL . Meet
at East School in New Canaan. From Merritt Pkwy Exit
38, head north on Rt. 123 for 1.5 miles. Turn right at light
onto Little Brook Rd and the school campus. (If you
pass Rt. 106, you’ve gone too far). Join us on this fasterpaced
ride to Purdys, Ridgefield and back. Titicus
reservoir and the notorious West Mountain, both in
one ride. 4,025 feet of climbing gain. Food stop. SR

West Redding Challenge Extended, B-, R/H, 45 miles,
EAP 16.5 mph, 9:30/9:45 a.m.RL: Meet
at Merritt Pkwy Exit 41 CPL. Scenic ride through
Georgetown, Redding & Weston, with some added
extra miles at the top of the ride. The ride will stay
as close to the advertised pace as possible. We
will regroup after extended climbs. We will ride
cooperatively with the idea of building base miles as
it’s still early in our season. Riders wishing to pull the
pace will be asked to go off the front. Food stop. FR

Bloomin’ Metric 75K Ride, C+, R/H, 45 miles, EAP 15.0-
15.5 mph, 9:00/9:15 a.m. RL: Meet at Marvin School in East
Norwalk. Take I-95, Exit 16, go south on East Avenue
for about 0.5 miles. Jog left/right at cemetery/rotary
onto Gregory Blvd. Follow for 0.5 miles to a 2nd rotary
and jog left/right onto Calf Pasture Road. School
entrance is 400 yards on the left. SR

Destination Mamanasco Lake,C, R/H, 37 miles, EAP
13.0 mph, 9:15/9:30 a.m. RL Meet at Merritt Pkwy
Exit 38 CPL. Scenic loop up to Mamanasco Lake in
Ridgefield with return through Wilton and Silvermine.
You’ll encounter a few steep but short hills – none
longer than one-third of a mile. Total elevation gain
is 2,735 feet. As a % of the linear ride distance, that’s
1.35% which is an average ratio for area rides of this
length. Food stops. SR

Norwalk, Darien, Rowayton Tour, D, R, 23 miles, EAP
12.0 mph, 9:15/9:30 a.m. RL: Meet at Fox Run School
in Norwalk. Call the ride leader for directions if unsure
how to get there. Take a lovely spin through West
Norwalk before joining up with the Friday Night Ride.
Snack stop at Rowayton Market. SR

nice info, Bruin11. If you're looking for group who race, check out Cycle Center in Stamford on High Ridge Rd. They have weekly organized rides. Tuesday and Wednesday rides - very fast, lots of hills. Saturday and Sunday group ride - Gimbels ride. Race pace. 100+ riders on a nice weekend. www.usicycling.org for more info. Welcome to CT.

Hey Alex,

Theres this great bike trail I have been going on for a couple of years now. It's for walkers hikers etc also so its a little jammed in the early afternoons. Anyways, it's called Freedom Trail and is located off White Plains road in Trumbull CT. It keeps going up past Monroe I believe, I ususally ride from my house to the trail and back home putting in 15 miles which is nothing but it's a great workout. Freedom Trail, I believe, connects to the old "Rail Trail." Hope that was enough info. if not just write back. Take Care
