The g/f and I are in. We registered in the first hour at the $59.00 price. We signed up for the 100 mile route, but if she feels she is not ready, we will do the 66 instead.

I must've missed the pre-early bird special because it was the full $79 when I checked a few minutes ago. Between that, plus $55 round trip transportation from the City and the $10.30 processing fee, it works out to $144.30 That's just too pricey for me.

Did you go through the registration process?? The 20 dollar discount did not present itself until half way through the registration.

I got all the way up to the part where I would enter my credit card number. The total was $144.30 I checked back to see if there was a discount option but there was none. I guess Glen got a good turnout for his Pre-Early Bird rates.

Drive to Smithaven Mall. Head east on 347. Just past Shoreham make left onto Sound Avenue. Ride till Orient Point. Make u-turn and return.

Cost - Zero

Ride through towns and wine country. Route is flat and fast and once you're on Sound Avenue, reasonably scenic

How many miles would you say that is? Sounds like a good idea. If they see you leave the car there, would they tow it away?

About 55 miles each way. I have never tried it, but I would think that it would be kind of hair raising on 347 until you get to Sound Ave. A Sunday morning might be OK, a Saturday afternoon would require some big balls. Sound Ave would be OK though.

As far as leaving your car, you would be fine. No one would notice unless you did something strange. Even then you would not be gone long enough for them to do more than ticket the car.

If you want to do it, and wouldn't mind a partner or 2 (Male/Female friends), my riding partner and I are always up for something new. PM me. If you promise not to try to drop us, we promise not to try to drop you. We can both do the Montauk Century in under 6 hours when we work as a team, but that is not our normal effort.

Have fun, y'all

Food for Thought...

Would anyone be interested in doing this ride on our own? We could all get together on an agreed upon Saturday (or Sunday) morning and do the ride together for nothing but the cost of getting there and eating. I am familiar with the area and may have an old cue sheet somewhere. If not, we could just make something up.

I am willing to coordinate, not that there is much to do.

What do you say?

The problem with taking the LIRR is that they only seem to have a couple trains a day that go to Greenport and the early one gets there around noon. That's pretty late to get started, and unless you want to spend the night, you still need to think about catching an early train back.

https://mta.info/lirr/Timetable/Branc...Period=Weekend

The Hampton Jitney might be an option but it's not cheap.

well during the summer...sunset will begin till 7pm...so we almost have 7 hours. and we don't have to do 100 miles...maybe 25 - 50 miles will be fine?

Oops. Sorry about the bad link. The current LIRR schedule, good for Weekends through May 17th, shows the last return train leaving Greenport at 6:14 pm.

Yes, I'm in for that - I have the cue sheets from year's past.

Basically we usually stay out east so the early start isn't so hellish. But since you're on the north fork during high season, and have to book two nights, that's pretty pricey, even in less posh lodgings. with the ride registration prices, it's like 500-600 dollars for two people, which is kinda crazy.

If we just do a half or metric and start a little later (9-10 AM) I'm there. And we can grab pies at Briermere anyway

If someone needs to take the train I could pick you up at Ronkonkoma and take you back. Not sure about bikes on that train, but it runs on every 30 minutes 24 hours a day (I think, it might skip a couple at night). I would be limited to me plus 1 or 2 people, I have a small 2 door car.

I was talking about bikes on the Ronk. train (Weekday Rush Hour) earlier, so it was dicey about 10 years ago...hopefully it's better now. Again, get your bike pass and then print out a copy of the rules, because the ticket takers don't seem to always know what the rules are.
