Got in a 25 mile out and back to Concord this afternoon before heading to the recording studio for mixing and editing.

Great weather for a ride.

Almost got right hooked by an inattentive driver on a cell phone. Pulled up next to me and proceeded to make a right turn with not so much as a blinker. I thanked God that I was paying attention...

Took the little blue bike out the Minuteman to Lexington Center tonight, 10 miles, temperatures in the 50s, rode a little later than usual. Set a quick pace and was pleased at the bike's lively response. Noted a minor mechanical problem that I'll pass along to Tyler at Paramount. With only ~700 miles on this bike, I consider it still in the break-in period. Heard distant coyote song in Lexington. Once again noticed a few pedestrians who seemed to be waiting, rather than walking. Perhaps they're there for the coyotes?

58 Mile group ride though Lincoln, Concord, Acton, Carlisle, and Sudbury. First long ride in quite some time.

Neighbors celebrated either my return to biking and/or continued ban from motor vehicular driving. Be kind to your truck banned friends.
Yesterday, Friday, we did hammer out 13 carefully monitored miles at 11 mph and had a fine time. We saw the Cystic Fibroses (Cycle for Haley) signs for today's damp ride in and around Holliston. I hope they are all having a nice ride for a great cause. I saw an article in the paper about Massachusetts not rating well in donations and volunteerism. I wonder how these things are measured because from my view there are a lot of sponsors and volunteers and the walking and cycling community is very active.

We did 51.7 miles on the tandem today, did a few roads in West Concord I'd ridden solo but never on the tandem. Then we headed north on roads we know well.

The day was cool, dry, and bright. And traffic was light, probably because everyone was at home watching the Pats game.

Took the little blue bike out for 14 miles on the Minuteman after the Pats game, left just before sunset, came back in the dark, temperatures falling from the low 60s to the high 40s. The latest adjustment of the rear derailleur seems to have done the trick. The ride simply felt good.

Only had time for a quick out and back to Concord today. Had to take advantage of the great weather to do chores around the new homestead.

A neighbor and I did a quick 46.56 miles this morning, a circuitous route from Waltham to Carlisle and back. I got the chance to ride the Masi.

Nice fall weather and new rear brake pads made for a nice afternoon ride. The recumbent's rear vee brakes are under the rear fork and tend to get road grime and not enough attention. Any oil from the chain tends to drip on the rear wheel and transfer to the brake pads. Today I scrubbed the dirt and grease off the rear wheel with less toil, rinsed throughly, installed new pads and rode 20 miles @ 13 mph through Sherborn, Millis, Norfolk, Millis, Sherborn with good neighbor Bill.

The light traffic was fine. A truck accelerated around us and seemed to be pleased with the opportunity to *** his big engine and swirl up some colorful leaves. One car perfectly tooted an alert then passed at just the right speed and distance. Good to get back before dusk settled in.

10 miles on the Minuteman tonight, starting with a sunset that was rendered entirely in grayscale, fading to a dim night under a milky low ceiling, tinted purple to the East with reflected city lights. The little blue bike behaved itself, giving me a pace that managed to be easy and quick in equal measures. At this time of year, riding after work pretty much means riding at night. Some of the folks out on the Minuteman seem to have been caught short without lights; a special few seem to have blown a lot of bucks on some great lights, but don't have a clue about how to aim them; I made a few helpful suggestions...

Rode the Centurion to work today. Traffic was heavy but folks were no more frenetic than usual.

I rode the NEBC Hill ride for the first time yesterday afternoon starting in Arlington. The worst bit was my first time down Waltham Street, it's steep and twisty enough to get some adrenaline going. Going up the hills was fine as I have a 34x36 gear. The final climb on Park Ave. up to the Arlington water tower was really rewarding.

Where, or what is the NEBC Hill ride? Sounds interesting, and I need a new quest.

It's an 18 mile loop around Arlington, Winchester and Woburn with 1800ft of climbing.....a fair amount is above 10%. It's a good way to get a quick workout if you are in the area.

I used a Cervelo RS that I've adapted for lightweight touring by changing the gearing to 46/34 x 12/36, so I have plenty of low end gears for the climbs.

Thanks for the reply; looks like a good route in a pleasant sector of the Metroverse. A usual long Saturday ride for me is an extended route from Kenmore Square to Norwood, and incorporating that segment would be about fifty miles as I reckon. Time though grows short for such excursions, but it's in the queue.
