Traffic light timing changes on Hudson River Greenway
I just noticed this this morning: the timing of the light at 17th Street has been changed to better coincide with the traffic entering West Street/11th Ave from 17th. It used to be that the bike light would turn red long before the traffic from Chelsea Piers would get their green to cross the path and enter West St, about 30 seconds, I'd guess. No more, my friends. The piers traffic gets their green as soon as we get the red. Just be aware.
It has always baffled me that the bike traffic lights all along the Greenway would turn red way before the cars on West St-West Side Highway would get their red and the cross traffic got their green. Apparently someone thinks it takes longer to stop a bike than it does to stop a ton of steel going 40 mph.

It does take longer to stop a bike than a ton of steel going 40 mph, and I'd rather stop short encased in that ton of steel than have to make a sudden stop on my bike!
