I'm usually doing laps at PP on weeknights around 7-8PM as long as it's not raining or wet. Weekends are flexible, but I'm usually out riding at the ass crack of dawn on weekends, again, if the weather permits.

How long/far/fast are you looking to ride?

I just average my time when doing laps at one of the parks. One loop of PP is 3.4miles and that usually takes about 10min so I figure my average is 20mph, obviously slower on the hill and faster on the descent.

Cycling computer FTW. You don't need a fancy one, just a speedometer and an odometer that way you can keep track of your improvement....if you care of course.

There are groups that ride in Prospect Park at several times of the day - there's a group around 10am (which I often ride with,) I believe there's a very early one at 5:30 or 6am, and there may be one later in the day as well. You can also just show up at the park and usually find someone going at around your speed and try to ang with them - people are usually cool about that as long as you seem like a safe rider.
