the "Queensboro Bridge Bike Path - SNOW PLOWed???" thread
Here we go again; I took the train today due to a cold and tried to see through the 7 train windows whether the bike lane MUP was plowed (last year they barely touched it, we were left to fend for ourselves). The entry area looked partially cleared, at least....I wanted to know whether it was worth pulling out the bike tomorrow if I feel better.
Please feel free to post here following this and other storms. I found last year I could get to/from the bridge in just about anything mother nature could throw at me....but getting OVER the bridge was another story!
We might need to gripe to the DOT...meanwhile how about a heads up to your fellow riders ifn y'all were brave enough to hit the icy streets?
Thanks!

It is passable! I took the bike today. Should have let some air out of my tires but I'm in one piece.
The Queens-side sidewalk approach is pretty bad. I chose to dismount for about 15 feet. The bottoms of the path on the bridge are completely safe on both sides.
The Pulaski bridge is passable as well, but the street has a huge snow puddle on the Queens side and ice/snow on the bottom of the Greenpoint side.
Hopefully all of this will not freeze over even worse until after the sun goes down.

It was plowed but unsalted, so in the morning there was a lot of ice and slush--even on the Manhattan side descent, which sucked. By 2 PM a lot had melted and both ends of the bridge were salted but the middle of the bridge was still crappy. It was definitely better the last time there was a storm.
I need some tires with tread. My commuter has 32mm tires, but they are slicks. Getting around on snow feels very... what is the opposite of reassuring? Have not taken a spill yet *knock on wood*, though if we get many more storms like this my chances of staying upright will quickly reach 0.

This time of year I kind of look forward to the snow and ice on the road. It's nice to take a few days off from riding the bike with the excuse that the roads are too lousy. After a few days or a week off the bike I really look forward to riding again, always great.
A few years ago I was headed home back to Astoria after a storm. That morning the path was lousy, not even plowed. When heading home the path wasn't much better. I decided to be more careful on my ride home and dismount the bike near the bottom because of all the ice. Little did I realize that I'm more stable on the bike than I am on my feet. Wiped out walking the bike.

I am wondering how the roads are today. No road ride for me I think. I'm going to try for ~30 miles of errands. Not ideal from an exercise standpoint compared to a 50 mile road ride but no one is paying me to be fast on a bicycle so I may as well enjoy myself.

I'm just going to spin up to the Cloisters on my commuter. Bleh. Don't feel like washing my bike afterwards.

Anyone take the Queensboro today? I am house-sitting for a friend and took the Brooklyn bridge to work, which was one continuous sheet of ice from Tillary st to City Hall.

Becareful on the Queens side if you make the quick Left staying on the sidewalk. THAT ENTIRE PATH HAS NOT BEEN SALTED, SHOVELED OR PISSED ON.

i tried to access the bridge from Manhattan from 60th St on Sunday and found two traffic cops doing nothing but they made me go down to 1st Ave , in the name of safety.

I hate traffic cops, when in a car or one a bike.
You know how each line of city service has a slogan, Like NYC Bravest, well I think Traffic Cops slogan should be the bottom of the barrel.
