Hook Mountain / Nyack Beach bikeway question
Hello everyone,
When I ride north of Nyack, sometimes instead of 9W I ride up North Broadway to the park, where a gravelly bike path runs along the water. I always take the Landing Road up to Rockland Lake, but I noticed that the long-closed off "Haverstraw Trail" is now open. Does anyone know the condition of this trail? The path from Nyack to Landing Road is a little rough, but reasonable for a slow-going road bike. Is the trail to Haverstraw the same?
Thanks!
-Noah

I usually ride up landing road, but I think the path to Haverstraw is more of the same though I have heard gets very narrow in spots where the trail had been washed out years ago.

From Landing road up to Haverstraw in not a cinder trail. It would be unsuitable for a Road bike. I would recomend 1.5 inch tires with some tread as a minimum. That part of the trail is much rougher than the one that goes along the river.
BTW have you tried the trail that runs from CedarHill park in Nyack to Ash St. in Piermont? This is a cinder trail that runs parallel to 9W

What kind of shape is that one in these days? I haven't ridden it in years, and the last time, it was quite overgrown in many spots. It's a great ride if you take it to Ash Street and descend into Piermont for lunch. Be sure to continue on to the pier afterwards, though. Nice view of the Hudson and often the site of cyclist get-togethers.
Rather than have to ride that steep heel back up to the trail from Piermont, I usually ride Piermont Road back to Nyack. There are some awesome houses along that road.

It's been a year since I was on that trail but it's still tight in some spots. With the right bike you could continue down the fire road (across from the old train station) to Sparkill and pick up the Rail Trail.

I only went beyond Piermont once. The last time I gazed ahead before turning off onto Ash Street, the continuation of the trail looked almost unbikeable. My concern, though, is the section just shy of Piermont if you're coming from the direction of Cedar Hill Park. A lot had been washed away and there were big, felled trees all over the trail a few years ago. I'm hoping to, at least, be able to ride Cedar Hill Park to Piermont this summer before going to see Laurence Juber at the Turning Point Cafe.

I think i know where you are talking about. I ride from Haverstraw by Tilcon down to Nyack Beach. The upper part past the Rockland Lake turnoff is in good condition as far as im concerned. Ive ridden it about 4 times in the past month
