    Massanutten VA area

Friends have a timeshare at Massanutten and we'll be heading there the weekend of Sat Jan 21 through Tuesday 25th. I know it's weather-dependent at this time of year, but I'm wondering if it would be worth bringing a bike (either road or cyclocross) along. Anyone know what the roads are like there (yes, I know there will be hills)? Would be nice to be able to ride out from the condo since we'll only have one car and it wouldn't be nice of me to take it from the other folks.

Would just be nice to get in 1.5 to 2 hour base rides while on the long weekend.

(lord knows the skiing at Mass-of-Nothing won't excite me for four days)

    Thanks.
May your tires or beer never be flat.

If you're thinking of riding parts of Skyline Drive be sure to check the open road status http://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/drive_status.htm

I started in Front Royal a week ago and was disappointed to find they had closed the drive past Dickey Ridge (only 5 miles in.) The road was perfectly clear of snow at least to that point. I don't know what would have necessitated the closure. If the section near Massanutten is open, that would be a good choice.

There are some good back roads in the valley the other side of Harrisonburg. Rolling but not super hilly. BikeVirginia was based out of there for a couple of days last summer. If the weather cooperates, it would definitely be a nice area to ride in.

    Have fun!
