Anybody Going to the Bike NY Expo May 4-5?

I've always been disappointed in bike expos, but this one, a freebee sponsored by Eastern Mountain Sports, looks like it involves minimal risk. Is anyone here planning on attending?

I will be attending on the 3rd and 4th.

Firstly, and most importantly, to pick up my tour packet for the 5 boro.

Secondly to film the expo for my blog.

Anybody who wants a peek at the expo should check my blog on those days.

i didn't even know this was going on. i might have to ride my bike over on that saturday and check it out.

I'm hoping it's not just a lot of high-end companies showing stuff I can't afford. I'd really like to see some practical solutions for bike commuting and multi-day touring. I'm a fan of Eastern Mountain Sports, itself, so I hope they are successful with this venture.

Got an email from Bike New York today saying that Raleigh, Cannondale and Specialized/Globe will be there and Cannondale will give free demo rides.

Thanks for bringing this up. I will probably go, I would not have known if you did not post this.

I'll be there looking for affordable biking clothes and to pick up my packet for the 5 Boro tour

Just got back. It's kind of tough to get to if you live outside of Manhattan, but it's walkable from the subway station on East Broadway. There are volunteers in blue shirts all over the streets between East Broadway and Pier 36, so it's hard to get lost.

The exhibits are what I expected. Some cool stuff, but really nothing that I "had to have." My feeling is that we've all got enough damned gear; now we just need good places to ride. For the free admission, it's worth checking out for the freebies and the community spirit. Too bad the weather is cruddy today, as there appears to be a schedule of outdoor demonstrations and test rides on the docket later on (Thursday).

Overall, I'd recommend this event, but not if it's going to cost you a lot or send you way out of your way. I'd like to hear some other opinions, too.

i'm most likely going to ride into manhattan on saturday, i'll probably stop off for a little while and check it out during my ride.

Transportation Alternatives is providing secure bike parking just outside the exhibition. I'm not sure if it's free or not. Let me know what you thought about the event!

there is full bike valet, they'll take your helmet too.

i had fun there tonight.

lots of free munchies and drinks.

interesting to see the difference between this show and the new amsterdam bike show.

I have some good footage of the floor tonight. I filmed a free 1 hour intro to touring course by EMS that was well put together and informative.

the fastest amateur fix-a-flat contest was entertaining. i was also able to speak to someone involved in the 5bbc organization, and get an idea about filming them on a ride.

tomorrow i will go early, there is some cool stuff going down.

my blog entry will be coverage of both days combined into one post....

here's something to peak your interest.

Is there some place at the exhibit where I can pump air into my bike? I only have a weak handheld pump and wanted to pump air before the 5 boro.

Everything I brought matched my price point. the only thing I brought out of budget was the $30 5BT jersey Tee, everything else was $20 or else.
