Unexpectedly ran into my buddy Kevin at BP this AM. My first mt. bike ride of the year, so we tooled around exploring where all the assorted and newly blazed trails would take us. Discovered that the west side of the red trail just west of the picnic area, is too sandy to be fun. The orange trail is a blast as always, now I just need to figure out a new way to put a lot of this together. The blazes do help.

Still babying my hurtin' hip, which is not 100% yet. Oddly enough the only time it DOES feel 100% is when I'm riding. Maybe I should get a little 16" wheeler so I can ride it around the house.

Today was so beautiful it would have been blasphemous to sit it out, so for a real easy ride, went to the beach, as it's only 21 miles & dead flat. Lots of people out!

Saw something on NEWS 12 a couple of minutes ago. At the bottom of the screen it said "Crews begin repaving 12.5 miles of Bethpage Bikeway". Any know anything about that? News 12 has never been known for their accuracy.

Thats interesting. The section south of the traffic circle kinda stinks in places, but that isn't 12 miles. North of that it's new and very well done.

If only they could install pavement that repels naked guys.

I took the Bethpage parkway north and got off at Central Ave. There was a sign i the path south that it was closed.

20 miles today.

I took the Bethpage path and there was a sign at the Linden street entrance that the past was closed. I rode north and when I hit Hempstead Ave. there was another sign and fresh blacktop. When i got to the LIRR underpass the blacktop stopped and the old surface was "roughed up". Closer to Central Ave the path was torn up and I took the parkway the remaining 300 feet to the circle.

It would of been nice if they did this last Spring, but better late than never.

Overslept! Missed the 9am ride, so small group of 5 of us plowed doggedly into that north wind until Bayville. It was nice having the push home though. 36 mile loop. Wife's feet were chilled, so tandem days may be numbered.
Several of us trading bikes for boots tomorrow and hiking up in Harriman. I'll have to find her heavier socks.

Also with sections closed in BP Park. Seems they are fixing the surface and better in fall then spring, for the earlier they start the more time they have to finish.

There was a section of the path that runs along the road to the parking lot. But I never take the path and prefer the road.

I got in 20 miles between yard work and quality time with the wife this afternoon.

I hit 11,000 miles on the Emonda since I got it January 2015. The cost per mile is not in the reasonable range.... and its got plenty of miles stil lto go.

Rode every newly marked trail at BPSP this AM, excepting the Brickyard.

Lot's of fun stuff.

Beautiful day out, got warm in a hurry. Global warming makes October feel like September and November feel like October.

I didn't ride, but drove by on sunrise and they have the bath heading north past the pump house torn up. There were a lot of large roots under the blacktop and it looks like they're fixing it.

It certainly did warm up in a hurry. Sun. morning there was a bit of ice underfoot here and there in shady spots up in Harriman. By afternoon, sleeves were rolled up.

Did a short 20 mile ride to the beach this afternoon as it clouded over. Still warm enough for shorts.....for now.

Another beautiful day.

I was greeted by this crossing Linden Street. The pavement was torn up but since I was on the SuperX I continued on. The surface was rough pavement, gravel, dirt, sand and mud but it was only until you crossed the bridge. There were a few other sections where they were doing work but I had not problem... just glad I wasn't on my road bike.

Progress seems to be continuing on the Bethpage MUP. The only really badly torn up section I encountered yesterday was right on the parkway bridge. I saw no construction in progress yesterday. About a 1.5 mile stretch has been done and is really smoooooth.
FYI, Woodbury Rd. north of the Pulaski Rd fork is also freshly done, as yet unpainted, and judging from the signage looks like it might incorporate a designated bike lane FWIW.
Lovely weather......Mid Nov. in shorts and summer jersey! Went up to Caumsett and felt I barely sweated for 51 miles.

Wow, now THAT'S a ride, especially for November. Where did you go in Smithtown?

I wanted to rest up yesterday so only did the 20 down to the beach, to check to see if anyone was catching any fish. (no.)
This morning there was a big group going to Hauppauge, which usually adds up to over 50, but we needed to get home a bit early so 6 of us opted to head up to East Island instead. Turned out the Hauppauge crew cut some miles and we all did the same 42 although they beat us home by 15 min. Oh well....the East Island route is much prettier anyway.

I picked up a winter jacket at the Brands "Fall" sale so today was the day to break it in.

20 miles @ 14mph, with a 24mph wind and temps in the high 30s. I was OK with that but didn't need the light freezing rain for the last 4 miles.

I need to get my head examined.

You might want to cover the vents in your helmet with packing tape, or duct tape... I use packing tape , which gets removed in April...

Nothing at all wrong with your head.

You're a "flahute".

It sounds like an insult but it's not. Look it up, if need be.
