Very large and quite fast AA group took a beautiful 43 mile end of summer ride up to Crab Meadow Beach. Not even the 4 flats suffered could dampen it. We accounted for 2 of them.......time for a new rim strip. Followed by a barbecue with many of the same folks. Good day.

One of my fastest bike commutes in years, Brooklyn to SW Nassau, 28.5 miles, 14.9 mph, 1:55.

A 15-20 mph tail wind in the Rockaway's saw me at speeds of 20-22 down the 8 miles of Rockaway Beach Blvd. and the boardwalk. Fortunately after Labor Day the beach is not crowded so I was hammering on the empty stretches.

My ride report for tomorrow I suspect will be "2-1/2 hrs., 10 mph avg."....... as I just saw the forecast for the morning of west winds 10-15, gusting to 28.

No choice, no problem, cars at work !.

Bet that was a fun ride. Sunday coming back from Breezy I was 18-20 on the same route. Love those tailwinds

I rode through there today, and the rough section from the top of the hill east to Sweet Hollow Rd. has been repaved. It looked pretty new, painting of lane markings did not look complete yet. Smooth as buttah!

For some reason they didn't pave the first 100 feet down hill. Must be a different municipality.

That was the marker for Henri Charpentier, of crepe suzette fame.

Today, I found.....the Pickle King! I'll have to look into this man's story. Not too many know that LI was once the Saudi Arabia of pickles.

The house address is 30 Taylor. #34 Taylor, a very small (and a bit dilapidated) house right next to the tracks and also built by the same man, is for sale.

Ughh. Humidity. We did an utterly sodden AA ride to Target Rock. Neither one of us felt great and we broke off on the way back and moderated the pace. 42 drenched miles.

I hate these conditions.

Did the "B" ride with HBC to Short Beach. Never been there and the roads are nice. It was a very slow pace, but still had fun. 42 miles and 2000' of climbing.

Sunday seemed a much more comfortable day to ride.....I guess a drop in humidity from 100% into the 80's makes a big difference, at least for me. We had a smaller AA group of 10, went up into the Huntington Bay area, 47 miles. My stoker was particularly strong that day, which is a big plus.

The Nissequogue area is a great place to ride. I guess you went up River Rd and then north & west to the beach. Another very nice route is to turn right on Moriches Rd, left on Cordwood path, right on Harbor Hill, left on Harbor Rd, and take that into Old Stony Brook. Harbor Rd takes you past a beautiful little vineyard.

History nerd alert!!!!!.....There is a pavilion on Main St with the figurehead from the USS Ohio, the first naval vessel built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, in 1820.

There's also the Stony Brookside Bed & Bike Inn, which sounds intriguing.....hasn't been open when we've ridden there. It might require a checking out.

Just bad timing on your part. You're supposed to leave late enough to hit the head wind while heading north, then the onshore breeze later while heading south.

There is no change in the wind when there's a tropical storm offshore.

Sarcasm on my part.

I'm hoping the tropical winds die down by morning as I'm wanting to do a park and ride bike commute. N winds 10-20 are going to suck

Still pretty windy but a great day to get out. Wandered around Huntington Bay......have flown past this so many times but today was able to stop. Interesting, would be cool to try finding & following the route on 2 wheels.

Edit; on second thought, might not be such a good ride..

Yes... headed north to Oyster Bay... it was like riding uphill with the headwind. Heading south was fast and went to Cedar Creek. But decided not to go to Tobay since I was tired and didn't want to fight the head wind on the ride back.

Summer continues! Another stellar day, but had to cut it a bit short to get back & complete some of the preparations for the Tour of the Hamptons tomorrow. Worst of all, we can't make the ride! Hope some of you can get out there & enjoy.

Sure felt like Fall today, base layer and arm warmers. Also the shadows seemed really long. I turned my tail light on for the roads that had thick shade from the trees.

Our poor old pooch has been suffering for a couple of days from vertigo stemming from an inner ear disturbance and has difficulty walking due to the disturbance to his balance. He can't be left alone for our usual 3 hour rides as he needs to be carried around and outside. Plus he is plainly terrified, and my being at arms length seems to give him a great deal of comfort. Hence, the floor. The vet assures us that things will improve. I caught up on sleep, that's for sure.

The Mrs "took a walk" during one of my naps that I think was around 6 miles....then nudged me awake & told me to take a late afternoon ride. So I did. Beautiful.

PS. That's a stick, not a kickstand.

Joe. This looks like your favorite ride, it’s in a lot of photos. V brakes, bar-cons, a triple, likely steel as well.

No plastic bike in the stable ?.
