Quite fast AA ride up to Crab Meadow, 44 miles. My wife said she felt sluggish but she could have fooled me. In spite of cooler temps, I was still drenched in sweat. I needed the help.

30 miles on the CX. Its more of a workout than the road bike, but then you can't take the road bike... off road.

Early evening ride.... 23 miles @ 15.5mph.
Rode back through Bethpage and there's doing a 5K run. The place was packed.

Went with the faster of 2 groups out of Borella Field this morning. They never fail to show me something new even when the destination is familiar. I've been resisting Strava etc but I might have to cave in, just so I can remember some of these routes. Old Dock in Kings Park, 53 miles. A few miles short of "riding my age".
And now the dog and lawn mower demand equal time.

So close....
Road to Tobay, 31 miles at 15.5mph average. There was a 15mph headwind heading to Jones and it felt like I was climbing a 5 mile hill. Then a crosswind to and from Tobay. The ride north was fast since I had a tail wind.
I was 3 blocks from my house and got a flat on the front. I decided to be cheap and not use a CO2, so I called the wife... no answer. So I removed my shoes and socks and walked home.

Just started riding in the spring,Doc said to lose some weight Startd with 5 miles. As the months went along the miles slowly went up. Last Sunday went to the Massapequa by Sunrise went down to Jones Beach then back up to Farmingdale. 30 miles. I was Alitalia tired and did 15 locally yesterday. This could become addictive

Yes it's addicting.
There's also the Bethpage Bike Path which starts at Merrick Rd. and Ocean Ave. in Massapequa park and goes 13 miles north, though you can pick it up in a number of places.
One of our local members - Papa Tom, also has a terrific website that lists many of the local bike trails and places to ride.

Don't know if they still do this but the Trans Alt NYC Century would route you thru Kissena and a lap around the velodrome. You had to really get up to speed to ride the wall and it was downright intense to be riding at a 45 deg. angle.

"Alitalia tired"? must have been a transatlantic ride!
We are lucky to have the Bethpage & Jones Beach paths in eastern Nassau. I usually use them when I want a low key short ride, especially in the evenings this time of year. We also have a surprising amount of MTB trails for such a densely populated area. CLIMB - Concerned Long Island Mountain Bicyclists has lots of info and maps available, if that appeals to you.

Evening ride.
I headed around 7:00pm and stayed local. I went south of Merrick Rad and followed the coast of Nassau Shores. The loop is good for 7 miles. Then headed north to the Southern State and then south through the Massapequa Preserve. Did another loop north and then south and home.
20 miles and i was never more than a few miles from home.
Nice and easy.

Ugghh. Beacon. I usually avoid Beacon by using Old Northern Blvd to Middle Neck Rd, getting onto Port Washington Blvd right by St Francis. I think it's slightly less steep that way, although probably not by much. Beacon is no fun on a tandem going either up or down. I've always feared cooking a tire off the rim with brake heat going down. The alternative is to let it roll and push 50 mph.

I know you guys are probably sick of hearing about this ride every summer, but tomorrow (Sunday) is the first of my 2-3 annual overnight rides to Connecticut and Eastern Long Island.
I'm starting at the Orient Point Ferry, shuttling over to New London, then riding to Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, Rhode Island via several waterside detours along the way. The ride takes in Groton Long Point, Mumford Cove, Noank, two state park trails, Mason's Island, Stonington Point, then finally the beach in Westerly, all beautiful places. Then, realizing as I do every year that I am not a beach person, I turn around and head back to Mystic, CT, where I spend the night in a crappy HOJO with a pool, as well as a hot tub in my room.
Although this ride is not on Long Island, it's doable by ferry, and I think a lot of you would enjoy it.

Fuc*ed would be a good description. I had to be at work all week and tried to stay off it, but it's in pain this weekend. My Ortho called Friday and left a message "We got the x-ray result back, please call me". Tone of voice leaves no encouragement. I can swim just fine, using pull buoys, but will not be on a bike anytime soon I suspect and I was just getting into serious mileage and enjoying the bike commute.
To oldnslow, the Mineola ride sounds like a fun group, where, when do they leave ?, do you have to be invited ?, pace ?

No need for envy. What I call an overnight tour, most of you guys ride on your lunch break. Also, just 'cause you're a Long Islander doesn't mean you can't ride in Connecticut.
I've taken photos about eight of the ten years I've done this ride and nobody (except my wife, sort of) is ever interested in seeing them. This time, I'm leaving the phone camera in my bag. If warranted, I will post a report, but the images will be up to the reader's imagination!
