David Byrne

So who else has come across David Byrne on a NYC bike path? I passed him as he was going in the opposite direction on the Hudson River Greenway this evening, but by the time my brain was able to process who it was I had just passed, it was too late to yell out, "David!"

About a year ago, I saw Allie Grant riding a bike down Washington St near Charles St. She played the slightly overweight daughter on the Weeds series.

In '95 I was riding in Italy. Marco Pantani came spinning by in the other direction. A few years ago I was riding home from work and saw Ron Wood and Lisa Fischer walking back to the Four Seasons Hotel from Whole Foods, body guard trailing 6' behind. Nothing like seeing a body clad in British hipster attire with the head of a sexagenarian on top.

It was extremely odd. And Lisa Fischer isn't much to look at either.

Have you seen "20 Feet From Stardom?" Great documentary about the lives of backup singers. Seeing this clip made me think of it. The film opens with a clip from "Stop Making Sense." "Slippery People." Lynn Mabry, one of the two women who sang backup during that tour, is interviewed. Among other things, she was one of the original Brides of Funkenstein.

I did the Livestrong Challenge in Pennsylvania a few years ago and saw Lance Armstrong and his entourage of riders and cars going up the hill as I was going down the hill on one road.

You know the buy who plays the host on the early Seinfeld episode where they wait the show for a table to open up? Yeah, well, I saw him on a bike once. True story.

I would get tired of riding the West Side bike path every day. It's nice but man does it get crowded on the summer. I've never seen anyone famous on that path. ;-(

I definitely try to mix it up as much as possible, but for a smooth, (relatively) uninterrupted stretch of riding, it can't be beat- for better or for worse. Unfortunately, the East River Greenway isn't nearly as developed, and the fact that their website hasn't been updated in almost four years doesn't bode especially well.
