Davis Double Roll Call
The Davis Double is this Saturday.
I will be riding it and I like to say "Hi" to Bike Forums folk that I see.
Anybody else riding it, that I might get to see out there?

Looks like it'll be perfect weather.
I'm skipping this year; finally going to mix it up and try some new doubles (Eastern Sierra maybe, Terrible Two for the Stage Race jersey definitely).
I recall you've volunteered at Mt Tam ... will you ride it this year?

Don't mince words
My friend's nephew rode this for the first time, and my friend told me about the fatality. His nephew saw the aftermath; it was very traumatic. I cannot imagine.
News reports indicate the rider just blew the stop and turned left and was T-boned by the semi. How did the cyclist not see it?
We may never know the truth and that's a shame; I hope it was a fluke.
Keeping good thoughts for all involved, and for the cyclist's family & friends.

Leaving Davis, 6 miles from the incident at 5:01 a.m. , I rolled by the crash site a few minutes after Fire and Highway Patrol/Sheriffs arrived.
The bike was in the road, but the I did not see the victim or the big rig.
A 1/4 mile later up the road I saw an ambulance approaching slowly with lights, but no siren. I knew that meant the worst.
Very sad, very sobering. I have prayed for all involved and will pray special intentions for them later today at Mass.

From what I understand, from a 1st hand report, is that the rider came around a turn and didn't stop for the stop sign. Either he didn't see it, or he thought the course marshal was sending him through. He went through the stop sign at approx 17mph and went straight into the side of the trailer, which was traveling at about the speed limit. He was not T-boned.
It sounds like a tragic accident.

Yeah, very tragic indeed. I am also curious how the incident occured as there was supposedly a road marshall at the intersection. I would think that if I saw a semi coming across at high speed with no sign of slowing down, I would have or stopped regardless. I also rolled by a short time after CHP & Fire had arrived. Saw a large blanket draped on the ground, and feared the worse. Report says 50-year old rider from Rocklin. Sending prayers out to his family.
Would have been cool to meet you guys. Not sure if I ran into any of you guys randomly, but I was out there riding on my fixie.

Very tragic, thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
While it seems hard to understand how it could happen, it could be that he was focused on a vehicle approaching from the other direction. Unfortunately more than once when I've approached a stop sign and I see a car to the left or right, I tend to focus on that car, and after I've gone thru the intersection I realize I did not really look the other way (or don't remember looking the other way). I've realized this about myself so now I give myself a little "both ways" self talk as I approach. Too easy for a few moments distraction to lead to a really bad outcome.
Ride safe everyone!

There was no turn to come around- straight to T intersection at a rather busy road. Well wishes to all concerned.
Mt Tam is my home area- after Nicasio rest stop captaining, I'll be doing the Marin Cyclists worker's ride DC.
& thinking about signing up for the TT as well.
