Enough Already

What, 3 weeks of wind?

Put May down in the books as a complete waste of a month. Our 3 day weekend the wind highs will be 14-15-14, which is actually an improvement. Sunday it was gusting over 20 for sure, I was wearing gloves and an underlayer.

Yuk.

We're getting it over here in MT as well. So bad that I checked last years wind recordings to see if this was out of the ordinary. I just try to ride N-S as much as I can. (Winds are constantly E-W)

I grew up in tornado country - it serves for perspective when I think about whining about windy days.

I actually enjoy the breeze, especially when climbing Diablo, it almost always blows in from the west, which is a tail or cross wind, depending which direction I go up. Rode in the Berkeley hills on Sunday, it was downright cold though. I was more annoyed earlier this year when it was going from hot to cold every 3 days. At least it's staying cold for a long time, instead of fluctuating so much. It's going to be a PITA once the heat kicks in for good trying to re-acclimate, but for now, I don't mind it.

Just pick routes that are mostly tailwind, that's what I do on windy days! And at least it's not raining!

The wind is one thing but the grey weather is depressing--it reminds me of a typical day in Paris--yuck!
Today I am going to see if Mt Veeder road is better with a little sun and warmth?
January was almost warmer--may be!

Oh great, we have another 10 days of 10-15 base wind days and temps that barely break into the 80s. This is like sucky Monterey weather, (no offense to coastal riders). only missing the fog. More jacket mornings and blown out afternoons.

Momentarily forgot about wind the other day when turning my bike broadside into it while waiting for the light at Pagemill/Foothill. I got blown over (happens about once every five-six years). Stuck out my knee to protect the bike and was bleeding a bit. Proceeded with great embarrassment.

Sunday was quite the day for wind! Apparently my route included the "headwind no matter which direction I'm going" wind. Was rather annoying...and looking at the weather, doesn't appear to be changing much this week.

Well, the switch may have been flipped. Upper 80's the past few days in the East Bay and damn, it feel like 100. It's been mid 50's and windy for an entire month and now it looks like we are finally warming up. I need to acclimate, because my past few rides have been ugly! I'm wilting in this "warmth" and it's not even hot yet! It takes me a few weeks of consistent warm/hot conditions to acclimate, but for now I'm suffering like a dog.

Anyone else having this problem, or do I just need to HTFU? Can't wait for those after work Diablo rides when it's 95 degrees!!!

Yeah baby, floating in the pool Sat-Sun. We have a week of +/- 90s and then it drops back down low 80s. Wind every day, Sunday it felt like headwinds from every direction, I guess that's what happens when the wind is from the NWN it sort of gets confused in the valleys convergence zones and starts to swirl. Sun screen on yo!

Anyone on Mt Diablo Sunday, what was the temp at 3500 ft?

What a difference a weekend makes. Hello high heat. I was rolling in the dirt Saturday at the base of Diablo and it was pushing 100. Now we'll see if the usual headwinds appear for my commute home, it is going to be just shy of 100 again.

Of course it's raining . . . I just cleaned my bike and replaced my chain on Sunday . I think I'll go to work as a drought-buster.

It's supposed to stop raining by 2pm, which will give the bugs enough time to breed and swarm the Junction by the time I ride Diablo tonight.

The last time I did Mt D, I (literally) ran into huge swarms of bugs right before the wall. This was in mid-April, and I don't recall it being right after a rain. Your bugs, I presume?

Amazing last couple of days... HOT, WIND, and then rain? geeze louise.. I went up to Oregon last week trying to escape our weather and it was hot there too! It's not windy right now, but I bet if I hop on my bike it will be.

Well I am STUNNED at how much it rained today. I cannot believe this weather, it feels like I am living in Hawaii. Think I'll put off a ride until tomorrow.

I wish I could get a ride in today.

Got a Trader Joe's run in on Monday; I thought setting out at 6.30 I'd miss the worst of the heat, but no, it was still there. It had cooled off a bit in time for me to flat on the way back.

Other than being chilly enough in the mornings to make me pause and go "arm warmers or no arm warmers..?" I really haven't had a problem with out weather lately. Except that I haven't been able to ride in it enough.

Diablo was dry by 5:30 - only wet spots were under trees. Calm, humid, quiet, beautiful, and it smelled clean. Bonus - no bugs.
