2015 Levis Gran Fondo

Anyone doing the ride this year? It will be my first, and only my 3rd century. It won't be my longest ride, but it'll be the biggest climb I've done. My closest is from Kilauea to Waikoloa Village through Hilo. Netted myself 120+ miles that day but only 8400 feet. Also that was in January, so I'll have some training to do leading up to the Gran Fondo.

On the day of the ride though, it'd be nice to know someone on the trip.

99% sure I'll be there again.. (2nd year) it was high 90's last year and it really zapped me and I was toasted at the end. For me Coleman Valley is the toughest because it comes so late in the ride. Only thing I'm going to change this year is Aluminum clinchers for sure this year.

Friend offered me her entry, but I didn't realize how expensive it is - I think she should try to sell it.

I wanted a challenge, but I'm not sure I want the hardest century I've ever done.... I think I'll be happy with the Medio.

Also, the Diablo Challenge is the very next day, and I usually volunteer and need to get there EARLY, so that's another Medio indicator... if it happens.

Just wondering why you switched from carbon clinchers to alloy?

less worry.. last year I got caught behind a bad crash (helicopter lift out) My fault for being slow I guess... but in all seriousness...that delay allowed a whole bunch of people I had passed basically catch up for the fast descent. Lets just say I was riding my brakes like hell to not hit someone going slower and the volunteers were waving us to slow down anyways. Just before the bridge I stopped and felt my rims and they were very hot.. no failure of course, but damn they were hot. I also passed a lot of people with "older" carbon rims and they were attending to their wheels. Now I don't know the cause of course, because I didn't stop and ask... but there was many on the side of the road...more then any other place on the route.

Chances are the Enve's will be just fine like last year... but I just don't want to worry about it... Alloy clinchers will give me a wider heat window and piece of mind.
