    Alhambra Valley Road Shut Down

A little birdie told me that there is a very high likelihood that Alhambra Valley Road will be shut down for as much as 4 weeks starting around the first of September while a road construction project is ongoing. The project is just east of Bear Creek, so the AVR - Bear Creek option will still be there, but it's a long ways around if you plan a ride using AVR from Bear Creek west to the Martinez area.

I know there's a road construction project starting there, but hadn't heard of plans to fully shut the road down. Any source beyond the 'little birdie' before I check through our club's ride schedule and see about changing routes?

I just rode Bear Creek a few days ago, and saw signs for "construction ahead" but didn't notice if they mentioned the road closing - I was riding from the west on AVR.

Signs are up now. Road will be closed Aug 31 to Sept 25. They are going to be grinding down the road surface and it will probably be impassable by bike. Maybe after hours you could walk/ride through, but I wouldn't try during the day, they will not let you through.

Does that means no Pig Farm?
Or is it the other way?
    Or am I completely confused?
    Most likely!

Here's the info from the CCCo Board of Supervisors meeting agenda.

VNA, you may be able to go past Pig Farm and drop down the west side but the closure will probably be just before the winery. It may actually be a nice out and back if there is less traffic. Although if some driver ignores the signs and gets turned around, there may be some road rage/speeding going on the way back! Closure is Bear Creek to just past the winery. You *should* be able to do AVR west to Bears loop no problem, just no going through AVR to Martinez.

They changed the plan. The road will not be shut down completely. Instead, there will be controlled one-way traffic. It will take 4 months now instead of the 1 month it was going to take if they shut down the road.

Yeah I saw that, guess people would rather have a longer period of semi-pain than 1 month of being cut off. What I also heard though is that if for some reason the rains come early, they will be forced to shut down entirely due to environmental regs, and the 1-way traffic control could go the entire winter.
