I like to suffer?! And a sappy ode to cycling.

It was really difficult to get myself out the door yesterday morning. It was cold, wet, wintery and unpleasant, especially for someone like me who has lived a sedentary/indoor life.
I felt stupid for even considering cycling, but somehow managed to put the grumbling aside, follow routine and throw myself out the door.
It was the first winter ride during which I felt cold, uncomfortable and generally wet for most of the morning. Still squeezed out 53 miles, and near 2k feet of climbing. I can't say it was my favorite ride ever, but it turned out to be a really good ride after all.
This hobby/sport keeps surprising me in the what is teaching me about myself and in the way it has never failed to make me feel awake, aware and alive, even when I'm not on a bike.

53 miles. Almost 2k feet. In the rain. And you aren't being paid to do it. Methinks you are pushing up against the boundary between "hobby" and "insanity."

For which I salute you.

Hahah thank you for the salute. yeah it did not feel sane while I was in the house, but once I was on the bike it felt almost reasonable. At least I wasn't alone on the roads.

Funny part is that I'm buying winter gear as I go, purely based on need. Unfortunately I didn't discover I needed booties until mile 20 or so! When I got home I ordered a pair... Just in time for this upcoming warm and sunny weekend!

Well see? I'm a trainer wuss. I have one in the garage gathering dust, because I don't have the mental strength and will to train on it. After 10 minutes, it fails to hold my interest.

You are worthy of a 3 podium girl salute

They aren't dressed for your epic cold ride, but they salute your moxy.

I hear you, before zwift, i would not have ridden 5 minutes on a trainer. It is the most boring thing in the world to me. But since Zwift i actually like it.

I'm definitely a wimp when it comes to cold. I just can't get comfortable. I suffer through the indoor trainer. I don't like it, but I do it! It makes outdoor riding that much more special, really.
