Fatal Crash on Morgan Territory

Heard this from a reliable source but haven't seen any verification. Anybody know anything? It was either Saturday or Sunday.

Word is it was just a loss of control on the descent, no motor vehicle involved.

I have heard the same chatter. Life Flight was brought in. Heard the cyclist did not make it. Not sure where on the descent it happened. I hope the family and friends are doing ok.

I see nothing on Google. I guess it's not necessarily the case, but I would assume descending north into the Livermore side? You can get to 60mph+ in an instant if you're not careful.

Strange, when I first clicked it this morning, there was nothing. Now there is a bunch of stuff. Very sad indeed. Had 3 kids...that must be terrible for the whole family.

One of the posts seemed to suggest it was a group ride. If that's the case, you'd think speed may not have been the main factor if he was part of a line of riders coming down. I know the descent into Livermore can be exhilarating as well as extremely scary, but going the other way can be bad as well, with the horrible condition of the road, combined with how narrow it is. Every time I go down that road, I think to myself how easily it would be to lose control or crash if something were to happen to the bike or a tire or lose traction.

First, Sorry about the old link, 67stang. It was late...
Here's what I just saw on my Mount Diablo Cyclists Facebook feed.

It is with deep sorrow, that I share the email below from Diablo Valley Velo concerning the death of a fellow cyclist.
Dear Diablo Valley Velo family,
It is with great sadness that we send you this news. On Saturday’s ride through Morgan Territory, there was a terrible accident. Our friend and DVV member, Matt Karson, crashed his bike. His injuries were so traumatic that he was unable to recover.
Many of you have ridden with Matt. A transplant from New York, he loved living in this area for the outdoor opportunities it provides. He developed a love of cycling over the last few years riding with us, first through TEAM ClubSport and this year with DVV.
Matt was a great riding companion, friendly, outgoing, affable and an engaging conversationalist. He had traveled extensively and entertained us with his many adventures. But, most importantly, he was upbeat, always bringing positive energy to a ride. Saturday was no exception. He had recently purchased a new bike and was talking about how much it had energized his excitement for cycling.
Matt is survived by his wife, Leah, his three children, Dane, Tatum and Mercy, and extended family.
Sincerely,
James Davis
