Bike path from Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito

I heard about a dedicated bike path that runs from Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. I have searched online for the map, but could not find it. When I say dedicated bike path I am not talking about a bike lane that shares the road with cars. This is supposed to be strictly for bikes only with great views along the way. If you know about this path please let me know. I want to bring my 8 year old son this Saturday. Thank you!

There is a car-free route under the bridge and half way to Sausalito, but you will need to "share the road" (no bike path or bike lanes) for the last several blocks.

It's a zoo, on the bridge, on the path, and then on the "shared" road because of the sheer number of tourists and regular riders mixed together. Unless your 8 year old is a very steady and disciplined rider, it could be hazardous. Keep a close eye on him if you're going to ride it

'The Corkscrew' comes off the bridge and directly down hill , under the bridge. (almost 30 years since I lived there, I had no trouble finding It before the internet)

Down hill slope may be a Bit much for some Kids braking strength

I regularly ride over the GG Bridge, and used to ride with my kids over the bridge, by tandem bike, when they were about your son's age. I see kids from time to time on the bridge, but given the crowds, surrounding hills, relatively narrow path, other riders who don't look very comfortable on their rental bike or who are paying more attention to their photo-taking, I would not recommend the trip unless your son is particularly experienced and comfortable on the bike. For great views and a relatively flat path, I'd suggest a ride from Fort Mason to Fort Point and back, perhaps looping through the quiet Presidio roads. Here's a map: https://www.sfbike.org/wp-content/up...Guide_2014.pdf

I tried the path yesterday. The view was beautiful and so was the weather. I parked my car in front of Disney Museum at Park Presidio. It was a good ride and I am glad I did not bring my son. The bike path on the way to the bridge was full of tourist (both bikers and hikers). It was very crowded. I thought one side of the bridge was strictly for hikers and the other side for bikers. At least that was my initial impression. There were riders that treated the path like their personal race track, tourists looking on their smart phones while riding on the bike, and hikers that would suddenly stop in the middle of the path to take a selfie. I had to brake hard a few times to avoid hitting them. The descent from the bridge to the pier was fun. Going back was hard work lol. Sausalito is beautiful. I have been living in the Peninsula for over 20 years and have only been to Sausalito three times. Yesterday was the third time. I will definitely include this route in my monthly ride.

On weekends, the west sidewalk of the bridge is bicycles only (usually). On weekdays, both pedestrians and bicyclists share the east sidewalk.

Tourist traffic on the bridge is worse in the mid-day (around 10am to 3pm). Traffic is relatively light earlier and later than that, especially on the bicycles-only sidewalk.

Yes, biking up the hill from Sausalito to the bridge is a good workout. This is why 99% of rental bike tourists catch the ferry back from Sausalito. Another option is to continue north (mostly on bike paths and quiet roads) to Tiburon or Larkspur and catch the ferry back from either of those towns. Check the ferry schedule though as they are infrequent mid-day, especially on weekends.

Once you've biked across the bridge, other very popular bike routes are the Marin Headlands loop and the Paradise Loop. You can finds lots of maps and videos online.
