Coastal Trail Runs was at Huddart Park so my ride began there. Decided to be different and ride the opposite direction from "usual." Plus Tunitas has owned me and it was time for some payback. So up Kings and down Tunitas to 1, Stage Rd to Pescadero. Awesome turkey sandwich at Arcangeli. Then up Pescadero Rd. Seems just as steep from that side. My sluggishness (and longer than normal lunch stop - got to chatting with some cyclists.) had me bail on climbing Alpine. Traffic was very light so I went up and down 84, then had to climb back to Huddart. Foggy at the start and cool temps on the coast. Roads were mostly dry. At the top of Kings the Ferrari club blew through as I was thinking of crossing, then on 1 as I approached the Stage Rd turn, about 30 motorcycles roared by. It was a good 50 mile ride, but still real sore rear end on long rides. Have to try to keep it to 3 hours max until it all heals. Scars are mostly gone though.

Yes my fastest was 50 mph--Although last week I went down that stretch, but a head wind kept me from going too fast. I was very pleasantly surprise to see Tunitas resurfaced--my favorite road in the Bay Area!

2x to Summit of Diablo and 1x to the Junction. 71 miles and 8950 feet of climb.
Route:
1) North Gate to Junction then descended from Junction down to South Gate
2) Climb from South Gate to Summit
3) Descend all the way back down to North Gate
4) Climb from North Gate to Summit
So sunny and warm on the mountain today it was like summer. 71 degrees.
Met up with Benridin' on one of my passes through the Junction. Good to see Bike Forums Stocktucky chapter represented on the mountain.
Midland, by prior arrangement, met me at the North Gate entrance to accompany me for my final climb. It was great to have the company for those last hard miles.

Early Bird crit 2 in Fremont today. Fresh but not too cold. Felt pretty good today and thought I handled the surges/filled gaps better than last year. Crashola occurred 2/3rds of the way through - I managed to avoid the wreckage (didn't look good, at least one broken collarbone) - TT'd it back to the main group when we soft pedalled it in for the remainder. A little bummed I didn't get to measure how much I had left in the tank over the last few laps, but under the circumstances, I'm happy to have stayed out of trouble and finished with the group.

I took my daughter on her first bike ride today. We did 12 miles along the bike trail. She did great, especially once we went back to the car for the pacifier
I ran in to Joel on the return from his big ride too. Great to see you, Joel!

Training for the Tour de Palm Springs about a month away…
Did 60 miles with about 3k ft of gain around the Douglas County/Castle Rock area.
Little sore, but with a 75 mi prep ride in a week or so, I'll be ready for the century.

Saturday unfolded as predicted - fog cleared and full sun by 1. I rolled at 2 and was once again caught in the lure of the mountain (Diablo). Went sleeveless on the way up it was so warm, beautiful weather up top. Lots of cars going up, everybody out enjoying the day.

Classic.
"Where are the water bottles?"
"I left the bag on the table so you could add the Cilff bars you wanted."
"I thought you had them."
"Well, I thought you had them."
And that's how it was when we started setting up the bikes in Walnut Creek's Los Lomas High School parking lot. We'd bailed on a 10 a.m. start due to amazingly thick and cold fog, and went to Barnes and Noble instead (if you know Druple, call me, mail me, save me.) Our 11 a.m. start wasn't much warmer, and we had one old ride freebie bottle we'd left in the car. I bought another when we got to Danville.
The ride up started in pretty cold fog, but around 1000 feet the day because glorious. It was downright warm. We shed jackets, arm warmers, gloves, and we're still almost too hot as the sun warmed our thawing selves. What a difference. And what a delight to look down on a Diablo Valley full of cotton-candy fog.
From the junction we zoomed down until we a wall of that dark, cold stuff again. Our decent went from rocket like to cautious as the visibility dropped to not-so-much.
By the time we hit Walnut Creek again the sky was blue and beautiful, and stayed that way until we drove into the gray curtain of East County. A cold, and warm, then hot, then cold, then really cold, then just right time was had by all.

On Saturday, I went with Chuck Tyler and some of his compadres from Dublin Cyclery around the Livermore/Amador Valley, including going over both Cross Road and the Flynns (south to north). A gorgeous day, cool but not unpleasantly so. Lunch at Dickey's, of course. 55 miles, and a greattime.

Team camp in Bodega Bay! Bay Hill, Sweetwater, Joy, and other fun climbing routes, as well as a lot of fun on the rollers through PCH. 3 days, 190 miles, about 15000ft of climbing. Cannot feel my legs, but entirely worth it.

Got the rusty legs moving again this weekend with a little time for riding between other committments - Started from Alpine & Portola, over to Page Mill for the climb, back down Moody Rd to Foothill, then on to Sand Hill to complete "The Loop". Only 36 miles, but put in a decent time (for me) for the Page Mill ascent and overall, a gorgeous time spent outdoors.

Last night with Midland I rode The 3 Bears twice and Pig Farm from the hard side.
20 Miles with 2535 climbing. Parked the car in Orinda.
Strangely, Elton John came along for the ride which was cool and all, until he started singing this and just wouldn't shut up:
"Hey kids, shake it loose together
The spotlight's hitting something
That's been known to change the weather ...
...got electric boots, a mohair suit "

Trica and I went to the Journalism Association of Community Colleges winter conference in Morro Bay. During a workshop Kurt from Apple demonstrated podcast tools for education and journalism. It was very cool. He handed out Macs and iPods so we could try making our own. Since I'd managed to sneak out with Tricia for a quick 25 mile ride during lunch I made my podcast about her. It's almost like a bad Road ID commercial.
Here's the "video" of the podcast on my blog

You sound like Casey Casem.
Seeing Morrow Bay makes me want to do the Solvang Double again.
