That's horrible, my God...No words man, except I hope for a miracle for you two.
Good luck...We're all here for you!

No ride for me this weekend - I went down to Fresno to see the Wisconsin Badgers squeak an ugly win out over the Fresno Bulldogs.

I don't follow college football, and could not care less about the win/loss records of either team. That being said, it was a major good time and there was lots there besides football to keep me amused.

Brief 30miler yesterday - thru Canyon, up Pinehurst to Skyline then to Redwood and back down. Through Moraga to St Mary's and then Rheem (northbound).

A bit fresh early in the morning, but I felt good on the climbs though - my right knee pain that was bugging me for a good portion of the Spring/early Summer seems to be history now (touch wood) so I can focus on finding other forms of pain and suffering that limit my vertical velocity.

1st Off road on 700X23’s! I bought some700X35’s, but they didn’t work. Rubbing at the seat tube and kissing the brake arms, so I went for it anyway. I didn’t pump my tires enough and got a flat on a demon rock with my name on it… So much for the first 20 yards.

I noticed my front was a little low when I got my bike this morning. Little did I know I had a slow leak that would haunt me the rest of the day. Later on I found out that pesky rock took out my tire and then Jim (Greg’s friend) helped me boot the tire at Alpine dam to continue on. … Enough of the whining.

It was an excellent ride up the old railroad trail from Mill Valley, quite dusty and it was a little hard to overcome my OCD about getting my bike dirty. There we’re some great views and I ran into “Enron” a guy Curtis and I had met on The Davis Double this year. We also ran in to a some guys that we chatted it up with on the summit and later on I ran into them at the “Twilight Crit”.

I finally got to do the “Seven Sisters” backwards, that was a scenic treat!

I took it easy on the descents with my tire problems and all. Greg (constant rider) and Jim we’re above and beyond patient with me between the phone calls and technical difficulties.

We coffee’d up in Fairfax and I picked up some bike supplies. On the way back the bridge wasn’t too bad, with tourists.

It was a long ride/day.
Thanks Greg and Jim for the great experience. I think I want to for now get some 28’s for my KHS and try it again soon. It’s a great work out. You guys are ridiculously strong riders BTW.

I climbed some hills a little west of Vacaville. Went up Twin Sisters. Have to admit though that I turned around at the 2nd set of cattle grates. My heart rate was over 185 for the 1/2 mile leading up to that. It was pretty steep. I decided that it wouldn't be wise to finish as the lowest gear I currently have is 39/23.

We rode with JoelS, Scottie and Joel's wife. We started out to do a Lake Loop but stopped at 121 as the boat traffic was particularly heavy (and some ginormous pick-em-truck drivers drank Hatorade at breakfast). On the way back through Gordon Valley we climbed Twin Sisters Rd. almost all the way up, then finished the loop and had a tasty lunch at Pure Grain in Vacaville.

Beautiful day, beautiful ride, great company=priceless!

Drove out to Woodside for a ride today. Went up Old La Honda, came down 35, took 84 out to the coast, jaunted my way up Tunitas Creek, then blasted down Kings Mountain (damn, that's a fun descent). Then I got a little lost, but eventually found my way back to Robert's Market, where lo and behold, Marco and Ruth also were. We chatted for a bit, then they had to run, so I got on the road.

But I didn't go home from there, oh no. That would have been sane. Instead, I swung by Mt. Diablo and cruised up to the ranger station. Okay, it'd been a long day by then, so "cruising" isn't what I'd call it. Between the late hour and my depleted energy stores, I decided to call it a day at that point. Flew back down the mountain, almost got hit by/hit a pair of deer, got back to the car again, and headed home.

A little over 60 miles total, with 8,907 feet of climbing () later, I'm eating pizza and might pop in a DVD here in a minute.

Top of Old La Honda, at the Skyline intersection. When I got up there, the fog was just burning off. It was pretty.

Spent the weekend in LA. Caught onto the Montrose pack ride, along with 100+ other riders. My inspiration on this ride??? Following a pair of hot chicks, but they definitely way above my league. I was able to keep up with them until we got past the residential area. Of course, they were probably 10-20 years younger, but at least I caught up with the rest of the pack, only to get dropped a little later. Oh well. But it was fun. Makes me want to do Penn Velo this Saturday.

Sunday, did the Bagel ride through hills by the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Great little ride, with great cameraderie. Still got in about 2500 feet with 35 miles ... and this was a social ride. Goldstein's Bagels in La Canada ... mmmmm

Did the Folsom Omnium. Terrible TT (20th?), better crit (6th), and really good circuit race (3d plus a prime). I know I didn't make the top 6 overall, but I might have snuck into the top ten. Have to see when the results come out.

Saturday we went mountain biking on the South Yuba River trail:

All the pictures

And Sunday was a lazy bum ride. We started by heading to downtown Sac and were going to ride about 40 or 50 miles. Got to our friends house, she didn't really feel like riding, we didn't really feel like riding, so we went to a coffee shop and had bagels and coffee while we talked for a couple hours, then went home. Got in a huge 12 miles

Got back Saturday night from a week of kayaking and camping in the San Juan Islands.

Yesterday I did my birthday ride with a few miles to spare, took Crystal Springs to Canada, Old La Honda, Skyline, down Kings Mountain (where I almost passed a Harley, had he not been hogging the left side of the lane), and back home via Canada / Edgewood / Alameda for 53 miles total (oh, and sporting the new NorCal kit too) .

Mt Diablo vis Southgate in the cool fog on Sunday. Broke through the fog around 2500ft to beautiful blue sky and some beautiful views of the mist filled valleys--which reminded me that I had forgotten sunscreen.

Made it to the top in 1hr 50 mins (a good time for me) without stopping (except for 4 quick photo ops), including all the way up the wall, which almost killed me. Now I don't have an excuse for stopping halfway up the wall. :-)

Why keep your birthday such a secret? You didn't give us a chance to give you a birthday ride. Anyhow, happy birthday ...

Thanks guys! My birthday was Sunday (9/14).

Anyway, it wasn't a secret, actually, it's public on BF.

It's just that I was on vacation and unplugged until I got home Saturday night (and didn't turn on my computer until last night), so it was a bit late to organize something at that point.

Nice write-up in your blog. Sounds like a fun ride... 8 miles of downhill single-track! Woohoo.
Sounds like a BF MTB ride is in order soon.
