Saturday I did some mountain biking with a friend in Granite Bay. Wrecked kind of hard, and smashed my head in to the ground, tweaking my neck pretty nicely. Decided to cancel my Sunday mtb ride, so instead I did a road ride out to William Pond park and back (from my house) for about 35 miles.

A few friends and I from work met in San Mateo and rode up to and across the Golden Gate bridge. Had a nice lunch in SF and rode back. Round trip was about 64 miles.

I've never ridden in the fog before. It was COLD!

I rode the Death Valley Double on Saturday. It was one tough cookie. My first time riding any real distance in the dark.

Did the Low Key Hill Climb with Ramon, Tim, Marco, Ruth. I started in the second wave and was pretty close to dead last, but it was fun. I couldn't have pushed any harder really, since the bottom mile I was maxxed out just trying to keep the bike moving up the hill, and the last 2 miles I was trying to recover while keeping the pedals turning. Got to the top gasping for air. Good times!

Then did the clockwise coast loop with Ramon and Marco and Ruth. The ride was fun up until Tunitas. I actually didn't mind the climb on Tunitas, for the first 1000ft in elevation or so I kept wondering "is this it?" in terms of steepness. But my legs pretty much quit near the bottom, so I was grinding it out the whole way.. by the time I hit the rollers I was just cursing the hill and couldn't get any speed going at all despite how relatively flat it was. It just seemed like that top section went on FOREVER. Thanks to everyone for waiting for me at the top! Even the mile or two ride on skyline back to my car was brutal, I was hating life. Oh, also, I wiped out on the way up Tunitas. There was new asphalt and I found myself riding on the edge to let a car pass. I didn't realize that the part I was riding on hadn't been tamped down until I realized my wheels were sinking in.. as I steered to get out, my front wheel dug in. Wasn't able to unclip, so down I went and turned turtle with my back on the ground and bike in the air :roflmao2:

Some motorcyclists came by as I was laying on my back and asked if I was okay, which I was. Worst 'injury' was my left calf and quad cramped as I tried to save myself from the fall. So I walked the bike out of the asphalt (a hundred feet or so) as I finished my Clif bar and stretched my legs. I noticed that evening that I actually did cut my knee open a bit, but it doesn't really hurt.

Then Sunday I went up to Monster park with some friends, tailgated at the 49ers / Seahawks game. We got a lot of crap from Niners fans for our Seahawks gear. Funny, they were a lot quieter after the game! :D

This site has some kind of crapware that pops up trying to scare me about needing to install some Windows Quickscan 2009 software on my Mac... :roflmao2:

Not sure if it's just a scare tactic site or if maybe the popups and stuff are more malicious on Windows.. don't say I didn't warn you if you go check it out!

And, it was even colder (49 degs) going down Panoramic to Stinson, heavy fog plus wind chill maybe around 44? all without arm or leg warmers.

I spent this weekend at the vacation house that my parents are renting in La Jolla. My brother was also there for the weekend and we did a 15 mile unicycle ride on Saturday. We went on a multi use path part of the way. There were a ton of other people out and we got quite a few stares and comments :D

Sheesh. Some of the only downsides of the Superflash are how easily the case halves come apart and how easily it can pop off the bracket altogether. At least they don't cost much to replace. :hmm:

As for the headlight, what supposedly helps in avoiding potholes is mounting the headlight as low as possible. When the light is near(er) eye level, such things don't have much of a shadow, but when the light is mounted down low, potholes and other obstacles get a shroud of harsh, thick shadows.

Thanks...it probably would have helped had I made sure the attachment point wasn't loose before my ride. Pretty hard to see anything with the light beam bouncing all over the place. :rolleyes: :o

Wow! That was an amazing story and an amazing ride. I love the landscape of DV, but I can see how it could also be discombobulating after so many miles. I'm curious, how hot did it get during the day?

Quick Daley City loop 30 miles on my 1 speed centurion...nap time now...

Brisk tandem ride, 34 miles, maybe 1500' of climbing, picked up Kameo and did a Winters loop. Rode through a small rain cell, maybe 15 min., not unpleasant at all. Most of the ride was under fast-moving clouds and half was against the wind. We averaged 18.1 overall and our legs are humming.

Hoping for more of that this week but with the weather and my schedule I suspect the trainer will get the workout.

Here's my short but sweet ride yesterday -- 36miles and change round Tilden and back through Moraga and Lafayette. It was nice to ride back up South Park Drive again, and my first time up the "corkscrew" on Glorietta from Lafayette - not as bad as I thought it might be.

Saturday, did Jack's ride to San Gregorio. One of the few times I've been out in the rain and doing substantial climbs.

Sunday, did a short jaunt up to the top of Montebello.

Sunday was a nifty little 64 miler out & back from Livermore to Sierra.

Crikey, that Sierra Rd is Pain-In-The-Arse! Did it in 34 minutes. So in 2009, my goal is to make it under 30.

Saturday -- easy route from Chain Reaction in Mountain View through Portola to OLH and up to Skyline, down on Hwy 84 and back to Chain Reaction. Managed to finish the ride before the drizzle.

Sunday -- rode with friend from Los Altos to Lexington Res. to Old Santa Cruz Hwy to Skyline down on Hwy 9 and back to Los Altos. Ended up doing 66 miles.

Pig Farm/The 3 Bears/Glorieta Loop for 43 miles. A pretty good ride especially considering I did not get out until 2:30 when my wife got home from her Team in Training ride.

On Friday, got in a quick (1.5 hour) ride to Upper Peirce Reservoir and back.

Saturday I did a 4-hour ride around the West side of Singapore...rode all the way around the airport (very long boring road, strangely popular with the roadies there). Wanted to do more but was tired, not enough food.

Today I'm on my way home. :)

Bikingshearer extended a late-inning invite to go for a ride today, and as luck would have it I had nothing better to do.

We did a relatively short ~30 mile loop up Skyline and back, and got treated to stunning views of the bay while meeting friendly folks the whole day long. I got to go down Pinehurst (a new descent for me), and that was a a real treat rolling through a cool redwood forest.

Topped off with a nice lunch with BS and his charming "SO", and the day was complete:
