Hey bikingshearer and bigbossman,

Were one of you guys wearing Norcal shorts? I passed a some folks on my way up Palomares and realized afterwards that one had on Norcal shorts. I think someone said something about me getting rid of the Serotta and getting a real bike.

T'was me in the BF shorts, and Bikingshearer being the smart-ass. Don't mind him - he's just jealous cuz' he was mounted on some dowdy piece of English pig-iron.

Are you implying that he was the only smart-ass among the two of you?

I hope a certain red Chesini wasn't the reason you were feeling rottten. So, it doesn't climb well and/or descends like a staggering, drunken, newly-unemployed auto company CEO? At least you survived the ride!

Tour of the Unknown Coast

Howdy!

Had a great 50 miler during the Tour of the Unknown Coast yesterday. The weather was nice and I got to chat with a couple of riders from a little further south down the coast while we rode.

I heard there were just over 1000 riders participating in the 5 different rides this year.

My GF did the 100K for her personal "mileage in one day" record. Last year she did the 20 miler, this year the 60... I think she's working towards the Century

I talked with a couple of the Century riders, they said there was great weather and the course was nice this year. I might do the Century again next year, especially if my GF is ready for it as well. I'm waiting till tomorrow to ask a friend how he did on it, I'm figuring he slept a lot today.

Hopefully there will be some photos from this year on the ride's website soon-

It rode pretty well, but rode even better after we fished it out of the drainage ditch and bent the fork back some. River rock and a sewer grate can come in pretty handy as a field expedient.

Excellent! As you and bikingshearer have seen on rides with me, anything can happen when I'm on a bike. I need a sturdy and versatile one for sure. Good job shaking it down. Don't worry about cleaning the ditch grime off of it it too much before I get out that way to get it. If it looks too nice when I'm plodding along on it, it will be like a big ole Fred announcement beacon.

He even tried it out with the clown bike wheels for a while too. He sure is thorough. I'm impressed!

It's been a while since I've been out there. did a 30 mile loop yesterday:

Someone in yellow roaring mouse kit recognized me but I think they had me confused with someone else. I had my norcal blue/white bikeforums kit on.

We met chickenmonkey and scottmorrison99 yesterday morning and did a Gordon Valley loop. C-monkey learned that riding behind a tandem is a wonderful thing. (c; Good riding buddies + beautiful weather and scenery = terrific ride.

Went down to ride both side of Sonora Pass this weekend. It is clear but still closed to traffic until next weekend.

Only had time to post one pic here but a complete set of pics and story on my My Cycling Blog

Can someone tell me what i am doing wrong such that the image doesn't display?

I did 34 miles that looked a lot like Lemondzurich's, but without the Ralston Trail and Polhemus bit.

One odd thing was going South on Canada, I looked over my shoulder and there was somebody drafting me. This seemed strange, since there was a significant tailwind. He didn't ask permission, but I was a good boy and held off on blowing my nose and passing gas till after I dropped him.

Then I was so tired from dropping him that he caught up and passed me.

Wow! That must be a gorgeous ride but also a torture. Some parts are really steep on both sides. I love driving thru the pass, riding it... that's another thing.

Having just moved to the East Bay I drove up to Skyline and did a small Skyline/Pinehurst loop. I was under the impression that this was a 20-25 mi loop but for some reason it came out to 18... Needless to say I was kind of disappointed and didn't really know where to go from there. Next weekend it's on.

I was "sick" today, so I went up Pagemill, over to Skylonda, descended 84 and returned to Miramonte via Foothill. 48 miles, 3 hours, 3200 ft.

Hey Anodyne, there's LOTS of options around the Skyline/Pinehurst loop, depending on what kind of distance/climbing you want to gain. To go from 18 to 25miles, you could probably have headed into Moraga and done the StMarys/Moraga Road loop, or looped up Rheem back through Orinda.

If you're up for something longer then heading North up Skyline to Grizzly Peak then heading through Tilden to Wildcat Canyon and looping back through Orinda would probably get you into the 30's.

Procrastinating from getting some work done so I thought I should post as well:

Saturday was a Pescadero Loop from my place in Redwood City. Up Page Mill for the first time (usually do OLH or Kings) and boy was it a tough one to get a good rhythm on. However, it meant descending West Alpine for the first time in a long while. Headwinds on Stage weren't as bad as I expected. Back up 84 to Sky Londa because we were a bit too tired to do Tunitas.

Sunday was Mt. Hamilton from Alum Rock and back. First time in a year that I've done that. It was HOT!

Hoping to be ready for the Death Ride in a couple of months!
