As Bigbossman mentioned, this past weekend Austin TX hosted the North American Handmade Bike Show (NAHBS), where we got to view some very pretty bikes (here are the award winners). We were drooling over the DiNucci Best in Show Winner.
Also got to ride with some fellow BF members. Highlight of Saturday's 25 mile ride for me was the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue...

Blues, booze, and bikes. What's not to like? Austin frickin' rocks. When I finally flee this state, it is on the short list.

I have had to travel a lot to Texas... and generally I'm not a big fan of the state or its inhabitants, but Austin is not anything like the rest of the state and is a really fun city. It's one of the few places outside the west coast (and Italy) where I could visualize myself living. I'm sure I'll be heading back for more visits as my son now lives there.

Okay, here's a few... Curtis as an artist, you'll appreciate this one.
Here's a beauty with some very cool lug work...
For more photos, here's a link to my small gallery of photos from the show
I'm sure BBM has some extra bike and part company stickers for you. I don't think he has enough space on his tool boxes to put all the free stickers he picked up at the show.

Got in a nice bit of night riding last night at Chabot. I was running late so missed my group who leave at 7, I could see their lights twinkle occasionally far ahead but I never saw anyone else. It was windy up at the Nike Classroom lot, but as soon as I dropped down into Ten Hills is was great riding. trails were mostly dry. This was the first shakedown ride of my 1X9 bike, now fitted with carbon bars and a 185 front rotor. I was having braking issues up front with the 160 rotor but I think the problem was actually the pads, suffice it to say I no longer have any braking issues. I also have to remove a few more links as my chain kept coming off. I may have to get a bash guard (or two) to hold it on (the seat tube is very ovalized, not sure if I can attach chain guards there.) But in all the ride was awesome, going up Brandon you could here scuttling in the bushes and then the lights of the cities appear at the top. Place was pretty quiet, not great camping weather. Rains started shortly after finishing.

Ygduf took me on a DMD training ride Friday. Little over 100 miles and a little under 10,000 ft of climbing. Tore my legs off. I'm not ready for DMD yet!

Well, no riding for me lately as a result of a crash on 02/10 that landed me in Stanford Hospital for 4 days (including a couple of days in the ICU.) Police have a witness in a car behind me that says I managed to launch bike and rider all by myself. I don't remember anything for about 20 minutes but it looks like I probably ran into something (a car, most likely.)

Got an early start to the weekend on Friday with a climb to Diablo Junction, then over and out to Clayton, up Morgan and home via Alamo with a burger stop at Lawrence's. 70 miles. Diablo and Morgan were car free and bike free, passed a downhill cyclist as I went up Morgan and that was it. On Saturday I did a run into Diablo Foothills to test out the 1X9 with it's chain guard and 4 less links in the chain, it stayed on even during the downhills through the dried cowpocks - not sure about my fillings. Riding the cowpocks on a rigid fork isn't the most fun.
BlastRadius - I considered the derailleur idea but had this and gave it a shot.

I had my first major crash a week ago today. Severe concussion (out cold for 15-20 minutes according to my friend then in and out for 2 hours) with a minor intracranial hemorrhage (still serious, but it took a specialist to find it). 3 CT scans, 1 MRI, 2 x-rays, 2 hospitals, and 15 doctors later I'm home and recovering with my mom playing nurse. I remember nothing. I'm lucky I'm not dead. I'm also lucky that I didn't break any bones or have a lick of road rash. In fact, I only have a bit of pain in my right clavical and my head (stapled up). Every other time I've taken a spill I've felt like I was in a car accident the next day with pain everywhere in my body. This time around, nope!
Photos of the damage here. (Bike and helmet, no gross shots of my head or all of my bruises.)
Hope you're recovering well, Steve!

Today was outstanding! Epic day.
Left home early to meet my friend Rick at Folsom Bike. Rolled from there about 7:30 and headed up to Auburn to meet some other friends for a ride to Grass Valley. We met up with everyone at the Raley's on the corner of Foresthill and Lincoln. From there, we rode as a group out of town, but the ride rapidly split up. A couple of guys went off the front, Rick and I trailed in the middle group, and some others brought up the rear.
Overcast all day with widely scattered showers, picking up in both intensity and duration as the day progressed.
Lunch stop in Grass Valley at a coffee shop that roasts their own. Excellent brew! And a good sandwich. We then rode past the old Empire Mine on the way to the descent of Rattlesnake and Dog Bar, followed by a climb up out of the canyon on the other side of the river. Then back to the Raley's where most started. Rick and I headed back to Folsom Bike, following the route for this year's stage 3 of the TofCA, and both of us pretty worn out. Got rained on pretty good during this stretch.
I burnt my last match (wasn't much of a flame either) on the way through the construction zone, though there was space for bikes on the shoulder heading S, but not N.
Went in to the coffee shop for a mocha with whipped cream and headed home.
Ended up with 107.5 mi and 8356 ft. Slower ride than normal with a 15.2 avg, but I have to admit, I don't think I could have ridden this one any faster!

Rode for the first time since my crash on Feb 10th. Just noodled around the neighborhood with my wife for 10 minutes or so just to see what my mental state would be. No panic attacks, so that's good! So far, the Dr.'s are happy with my recovery. I have a follow-up scheduled with the trauma clinic in a couple of weeks and, hopefully, will have a good report.

Took my spankin' new CAAD9 up Old La Honda for its maiden voyage. Gorgeous day on Saturday - just perfect for a new bike on a new (to me) route. This was my first ride on the peninsula and certainly won't be my last!

In preparation for the Chico Wildflower (May 1) and my first century, I rode a bit over 40 miles this weekend. I'm going to keep ramping it up over the next few weeks to about 85-90 miles. Fun group to ride with!

Rode Chabot on Saturday for 19 or so, a good workout. From Nike Classroom, did a few loops off of Brandon out to Bort Meadow, and returned on Brandon. Back in the lot Rangers and Police were all over, a chopper was up as well. Ranger asked if we saw "a guy". Weather was excellent, nice and warm. On Sunday we were in Mtn View so I hoped to hit Saratoga Gap/Long Ridge/Peters Creek but should have checked the trails status first. A sad little 6 miles to find all the trails closed. It was a bit slippery anyway, not my thing.
