Anybody else ride Hicks

at all or on a regular basis. I use it for a recovery ride(no climb to the top) out and back then over Kennedy into Los Gatos then home. I always see alot of other riders, any from this board out there?

I've done it a few times. Not recently, though. I live up in Cupertino and getting down to Hicks for an out-and-back ride is kind of a hassle. Alma Bridge Rd. around the reservoir and down the bike trail is about as far south as I go. Our Saturday ride went that way about a month ago but I wasn't on it (even though I picked the route!)

Yeah. When we do this we start out in Los Altos, head south, up Hwy 9 (either Mt. Eden/Pierce or Redwood Gulch), Skyline, Bear Creek, Summit, Old Santa Cruz Hwy, Aldercroft Heights, Alma Bridge Rd, stop at the LG Roasting Company, and back via Hw9, Quito, Cox, and meandering through Cupertino back to Foothill.

That sounds like a fun route.

I have done a variation on that route (I'm in SJ so start from down here when I can)...up Hwy 9, along Skyline/Bear Creek/Summit, descend old Santa Cruz, etc. Sometimes go up Soda Springs Road which is a decent climb (but a somewhat sucky descent) or one of the other climbs around the reservoir (Black/Gist, etc.).

Hicks is good but I don't do it much.

I have been riding Hicks at least once a week. From Almaden (SJ)... Almaden Expressway, Almaden Road, Los Alamitos, Hicks, Loma Almaden to the "No Trespassing" sign and back.

What do you mean 'a recovery ride'? Maybe my scale is way off but this is a pretty steep hill.

I rode around the hicks/shannon/kennedy/mckean area at least once a week until DST came along and killed my late-evening rides. I have a good headlight but its just not as much fun in the dark so I am on 'maintenance' commuter riding until spring :(

I remember Hicks Rd. I used to live in the south part of San Jose and rode all over that area. I liked the lower parts of Hicks because it was a quick route away from the city. It felt like one minute I was riding through crowded suburbia, then the next minute I'm out in the middle of nowhere!

I haven't been out there in a long time, so if you saw a cyclist and wave hello...

it wasn't me! :)

Wow, if Hicks is your recovery ride, then you're in a different league than I am.

About that route down Alma Bridge - do you guys go down the creek trail? On roadies? That gravel is huge!

Guess I should clear that up. I dont climb to the top, I just ride out past the dam to where the climb starts and turn around. That steep climb would not be recovery for anyone I know, specially me.
