Not where I lived. I had a bike my parents got me at a garage sale and after only 2 weeks of riding it I got hit by a drunk driver... Yeah I could run around the track at the local school, but I hate running in circles. I did swimming and diving in HS and played tennis a little... But I couldn't go hiking, I couldn't ride a bike anywhere outside the city because I didn't have a bike and the 2 weeks I did have one, my parents wouldn't let me go anywhere far. I didn't have a car and my parents wouldn't take me anywhere...

Sounds idyllic. Quite a change to Sacramento and Santa Cruz. Marine Bio and Ocean Science are awesome subjects; have fun in your studies.

OMG, I'm not there yet, but in 3 years I will be ... dang. And being a transplant from LA, I used to be purely a flatlander, but hanging out with the boys here, my climbing has improved, so there is hope after all.

I climbed Diablo for the first time for my 50th birthday, 3 years ago. Since I rode 2 DRs and 3 Doubles. You are right, there is hope after all!

I love Santa Cruz! I can escape to the mountains or to the ocean. And that I have bike, I'm excited to ride along the coast

You should ride down to Monterey one day! Gorgeous place to ride and enjoy. If you want challenges, yes, they're here, too.

Whats up everyone?

I just moved to the bay area (Fremont, specifically) from Baltimore, MD about 3 months ago. I'm 26, ride fixed and also just recently bought a 2010 CAAD9 w/ rival-force mix.

It's colder out than I thought California would be.. I guess lack of humidity. I'm used to 90's and 100% humidity. (which is terrible honestly)

But I didn't think I'd be buying a ton of winter gear when I got here.. haha. <3 the PI outlet in Gilroy. One of the guys that works there did the opposite move I did.. CA > DC and back to CA.. I can see why, I like it here!

Hi all,

I'm 24, and I ride a 2004 Giant OCR-2. I live in the south bay, SJ area, but I do ride in SF from time to time. Riding to lose some pounds before next summer

just moved to Davis

Just moved out here (here meaning northern California, the big West), from Durham, NC. And already, the cycling out here is amazing - if for no other reason than the lack of humidity compared to the east coast.

I would love to find some mountain bike routes close enough to Davis to ride to the trailhead (living car-free out here), so if you have suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks, and I hope to meet more of you from Davis in person.

Some of you may know me from my old Outspokin' Cyclist columns in the Herald Sun newspaper.

Hey guys!

New to the forums, 17, and I ride a Volume Cutter fixed gear and Scattante R330 (just getting into road). Don't have too much time to ride outside of home (around Cupertino/Sunnyvale) now that school's back, but definitely hoping to make some trips up to SF. I drop by SJSU/IminusD a bit so might see some of you around haha

Hey there! Going to school here. Not sure of any good mountain trails unless you want to go out to Winters to Cardiac or something...

Do you ride road?

Howdy all,

I'm 24, still pretty new to cycling. Started in April with a Scott S40, it was a bit big so went to a smaller Specialized Allez Elite. I love riding around SF and trying to do a full commute to Mountain View every other week. My goal is the full 50mi commute once a week - weather permitting - by next spring. I'm always looking for more people to ride with on the weekends!

Oh yeah and... BIKE PARTY!! (I'm originally from SJ )

Happy New Years everyone!

Born again because it's been +15 years since I've been on a road bike. My previous road bike was a Giants Kronos. After some prodding from relatives and friends, I finally decided to dive into the deep end of the pool. I am currently building up a relatively budget-minded bike with a 2002 Cannondale CAAD5 3000Si 52cm frame. I am hopeful that the bike will be ready by Spring/Summer time.

I'm located in Brentwood, and see quite alot of roadies, so I may see some of you someday.

Ride On

Hello hello! Loved to ride as a kid and have decided to get back on the old bike. Ali, 25 from the east bay. Waiting to get a nice shiny road bike off of layaway soon. Can't wait to get out there now that the weather is somewhat decent. Hope to see you all out there!

Hello everyone;

50+ rider here. Started riding again last March, so just finish my first full year of riding.2,125 miles so far and counting.
Live in the Menlo Park area and ride a few times a week with my long ride on the weekend. Current ride is a 09 look 566. I am a clyde, but getting smaller and a little faster. Old La Honda rd scares me.
Time to start looking for friends to ride with. Joined Western Wheelers a couple of weeks ago, but have not gotten out to do one of there rides as of yet.

Hey there! Joker and I both are in Davis, if you ride road there are definitely some great rides/routes to check. Mountain I do not know of anything super close unfortunately, besides heading out towards Berryessa.

Hello all. I live in Sacramento and recently got into cycling. I've been riding around and to work a few times on my mountain bike, and am just about to buy my first road bike. I'd love to meet some people in the area to ride with as none of my friends do.
