    UPS is strange

So I ordered Thomson Elite seatpost to add that aluminum bling to my bike. The carbon wrapped one with setback was just not doing it for me.
Anyway looked at UPS tracking information. Seems like it will take more time for it to get from SF to Santa Clara then from San Diego to SF!
Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 06/19/2007.

Yeah, I've had stuff like that from UPS. When I was in Dallas I had a package shipped via ground (about 7 day delivery) that arrived in Ft. Worth on the second day... But instead of delivering it 40 miles to me it was shipped across the country and then routed back to Dallas for delivery on the 7th day! WTF!?!?!
This day will be over... one of these days!

It takes less time to sort by major hub than by area, then individual route.

It's normal for them. "Sorting" rules and logistics, based on math.
    FedEx does the same thing.

My bike came via Fed/Ex from Michigan to Santa Rosa, then started to go back. I called in sheer panic to find out what was going on and they said they lost the address label.

They were able to bring it BACK to Santa Rosa and there it sat. And sat. And sat. I called to find out what was going on and they told me it would be faster if I just came to Santa Rosa to pick it up myself. Oh nice. I paid $70 for them to ship it and I have to drive over an hour to get my bike.

By the way. The original address label was still on there and legible...

Siu, a frame I ordered did the same thing (DHL) as your bike, except it got to the destination hub (SJ) and just sat there. I called and they said they couldn't "read" the address... What couldn't be read was the !@#$%^& bar code on the label. What, is actually READING letters and numbers on a label with eyeballs a lost art now??! WTF?!

    Maybe they couldn't READ........

That was with my vintage bike that was sent as a Christmas gift from another member here. It arrived damaged and since it was previously owned I never said anything to FED/EX. Then the original owner told me it was pristine when he sent it.......

Now that I've got the itchin' for a road bike, I ordered a bike and it should be coming next week. Hopefully. This one is insured higher though. ($5300).

UD, it's kind of bizarre, but I think the way it works with all the shippers is they use the major sorting hubs to get stuff closer to final delivery, and then they just put them in delivery batches for loading in trucks and delivery based upon their stated delivery obligations. I've seen stuff fly across the country on Ground shipping, and just sit until the day it's supposed to be delivered... Maybe these shippers shouldn't use online tracking. Or...maybe they use online tracking as a way of getting people to pick up stuff so they don't have to deliver it...hmmmm?

OK, just to bring some balance to this "brown truck-bashing" thread... I just received a bike from Seattle to my home east of Sacramento in two days. No muss, no fuss. Just saying...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!"

Nope. I called UPS, I can't pick it up since it's in "transit". So I have to wait 4 days for it to travel 10 miles to my house.

Did you call to see if you can pick it up at the Sunnyvale UPS depot? I've done that a few times in the past. Works out pretty good.
I'm in it to finish it.

UPS is horrible. It takes them two days to ship something cross country and they sit on it since 5 day ground was purchased. USPS is by far better.

+1, UPS sucks about that. If you pay for Ground, you can almost guarantee it will take 5+ days even if the shipment is only a few hundred miles away.

OTOH, US Postal Priority Mail is the same cost or cheaper and will almost always deliver in 2-3 days across the whole country even though they state 2-5 days. The only thing you don't get is online tracking .
Tracking only serves to frustrate when you see a package get from the east coast to the Oakland facility then sit for the next 3 business days until your "ground" shipment is scheduled to arrive. No going above and beyond with Brown.

The thing that bothers me most is the fact that you paid to have it shipped, so why should YOU have to pick it up? Yes, it may be closer to your house than it was in the first place but still - a service paid for is a service that should be rendered.

    Usps

We have had many experiences of 7 or more days to the east coast or even 5 or 6 days from Marin to SF. Then there is the mail that does not arrive. The only problem I have had with UPS was this week when "Delayed due to late train" means I probably get it monday instead of yesterday, Friday
