Marin Century - roll call!
OK, who's up for the Marin Century on Aug 4th? http://www.sextonarts.com/marincentury/
There are a ton of routes to choose from: 50K, 100K, (2) 100M, 200K, and 200M routes. I am doing one of the centuries, but haven't decided between the Mt. Tam or Marin century. Can anyone with previous experience make a recommendation? |
I'm thinking of doing the 100k
|
I'll do 100K

We have a good group from our Sunday ride going- hoping for a dozen or more. gotta love a Century I can ride to from my house.....
All of the routes are good. The stock 100 mile is a good mix of scenery, a couple hills, and some rollers. I looked at the TAM 100, and think the stock 100 will be a nicer ride all around. If you want to get in the climbing, do the double, if you want to avoid the rollers, do the 100k. |
Hello... I'll be doing the 100k in my vintage blue Vitus 979 Cilo. See you there..
|
I think I signed up for Mt. Tam double metric, but may opt for the single century.
|
I think I'll do the 200k also.
Not sure yet though. Trying to convince my GF to try the 50K as well ;) |
Andy and I are doing the Mt Tam century. Then Im thinking of doing a crit the next day.
|
I haven't signed up yet, but intend to do the 200K. Are south bay people staying up there on Friday night? 6am start is too early for me to drive up Saturday!

I'm doing the metric.

I've been trying to figure out whether to do the Marin or Mt Tam Centuries but after ConstantRider's comments i'm leaning towards the Mt. Tam!
|
I'd like to get in on this ride, but have something else on August 4th I need to play schedule-tetris with. I was thinking the 100mi, or 200k. Anyone want some company for the drive up/sleepover the night before? :o

Seems like more are doing the 100 mi.
Considering that the Giro a couple weeks ago was my first century, I think I'll do the Mt. Tam 100 mi (rather than the 200k). |

reggied for the 100mi
I'll be on the 100mi traditional course with 6500' of up, not the 94mi hillier course. I'll be wearing a Rivendell searsucker long sleeve pin strip shirt (it's all about style ya know;), and either riding a crank forward our a bent.
This will be my first century of the year, and the Healdsburg metric this Saturday will be a good gauge. Commuted to work today, about 23mi one way in 1.5hrs (Hayward to SJ), and hope to get a few more commutes in before Marin. I know I can go the 100mi distance with a bent with minimal training, but wanted to try one of the crank forwards, since there will be a fair amount of climbing. |
I just registered for the Mt. Tam century. Also I wanted to point out that the early registration period ends this Friday so register now and save yourself $15-20 :)

Few other things I thought I should mention. If it's foggy, which it definitely can be, the views from Mt. Tam won't be so spectacular. (I was up there today though and it was great.)
Also, the descents on the Mt. Tam route are more technical (and longer) than those on the traditional route. Finally, the stretch of Highway One from the bottom of Muir Woods Rd. to Stinson Beach can be pretty trafficky, and there's not much if any shoulder going north, which is the direction the route will be going. (I've always rode it from the other direction, and usually only do so on weekdays when there's not as much traffic.) At least driver awareness should be high though because there will be a lot of bikes on the road. If all that sounds fine, then you will definitely like the route. |
I am going to sign up today, probably for the century, but still may opt for Mt. Tam. I had other plans that just fell through so I am going to drive over and ride solo. I'll be on a white postal trek and wearing Kodak/Sierra Nevada team gear, say hi if you see (pass) me.

Okay, I'm in for the century...does anyone know of any good camping in the area?
|
I'm in for the 200k, as I've done for 3 years now.
