    Private Property on Mount Umunhum

So I rode up to the ridge just below Mt. Umunhum this weekend. I stopped along the ridge where there was a much more serious gate with a security camera. My original plan was to continue on Hicks Rd, but was encouraged by a family in the parking lot on the way up to the summit.

Wikipedia says that people routinely get arrested in their attempt to summit. I'm wondering if I got lucky and missed them, or if wiki overstates this a bit? Any experiences?

If you respect the private property signs then there is no worry. The road crosses private property before it reaches the top, which is also closed according to the open space web site. You can download a map that shows the open space boundaries. There are also signs next to the road indicating where the private property starts. IIRC it's about a mile past the steel gate.

yes, it is really well marked past the gates - "No Bicycles beyond this point" or words to that effect. Can't miss it. FYI I did this a couple of weeks ago. According to my Garmin the climb up Hicks from the south, than to Umunhum is 4 miles, average 10% with 19.3% max.

I came up from the south as well, but without a garmin. I was orignially planning on taking McKean road but I missed the turn. I had no idea that the climb could be so brutal, and fun! Thanks
