Suggest a get-away for me and the wife!
Hey ho!
We may be coming up to visit my wife's sister in December. She lives in Fremont. Vicki and I are thinking of taking one or two nights while we are there to jump out someplace, while leaving our 13 year old with auntie! Anyone have some good ideas for a place to go? I'm thinking about Half Moon Bay but open to whatever is within a roughly 60-80 min drive away and won't break the bank.
Thanks,
Sheldon

Santa Rosa and above lot's to see nice riding and great places to eat, ride, wine taste and get away from the crowds. It's our favorite getaway.

This is all just a notion of an idea at the moment so I'll let you know as we go along. If it works out, would love to do anothe ride. I'm still talking about the last one!

60-80 minutes from Fremont would be Half-Moon Bay or SF.
When in December are you thinking of doing the trip? My B-day is Dec 19 and I'll be just getting back on the bike after injury recovery. I'd like to get out on a ride if the weather is decent.

Don't really know exactly when we would do this. We would have to figure out dog sitting, which is usually done by my mom. She will be out of town traveling in late December this year.

As for staying overnight, HMB is a quiet, picturesque place. Good restaurants, nice B&B's to stay in. Or, if you're feeling flush, you can stay at the Ritz Carlton @ $400/night .
If you have any questions about what activities to do, feel free to PM me.

Or if you want a little more civilization you can head to Monterey. Lot's of stuff to do down there. We personally like the Hotel Pacific. Very cool place.
And finally... you can try a hotel around Union Square or around Fisherman's Wharf and site see the city for a couple of days.
Good luck!

San Francisco is one of the world's greatest tourist cities.
If you want something quieter, try Monterey or Carmel or even Santa Cruz. If you don't mind driving a little further, Napa Valley, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe are fantastic weekend getaways.

+1 for Costanoa
I stayed there with my ex-gf and it was pretty nice. The hot tub with the view was very nice.
But the other suggestions are great. Wine country, HMB, etc... It's all great

If you are into quiet and nature try this place: Costanoa in Pescadero off Hwy 1 (since you are looking at Half Moon Bay. You can either rough it in a tent or cabin or do what my wife and I did and get one of the hotel rooms. It is a great getaway and very quiet and romantic. They have trails to walk on, close to the beach, etc. But no TV's in the rooms. Check it out.

+1 for the Monterey/Carmel area for a romantic get-away. I especially like Pacific Grove, not as busy as Monterey, not as expensive as Carmel.

It's not in the Bay Area, but I also enjoyed my stay in Big Sur at Ripplewood Resorts.
It's not a hotel, just cabins. But they are cheap and nice! the restaurant next door is pretty good, there is hiking all over the place, and a river flowing right by your cabin. To me it was much cooler than a hotel! My GF and I really enjoyed our stay.
Check it out --> https://www.ripplewoodresort.com/
If you want a little bit of "posh" for the day head over to Ventana Inn for dining and/or spa stuff. But lodge somewhere else, since they cost big $$$$.

I also like Healdsburg or Monterey/Carmel. It depends on whether you would prefer wine country (actually both are good for this, but the wines are different) or the coast.
