Playing hookie this afternoon
It is just too nice to stick around the office - my client meetings are done with and I'm taking full advantage of an understanding boss (yes, I'm still self-employed) to go for a ride this afternoon. Just rubbing it in a little!

Jealous, I'm totally swamped with work this week (just like the last two months).
Hopefully it will tail off soon though, will be switching departments shortly.

It was really difficult coming into work today. After a week of following the tour, cowbells, thunder sticks, yelling and chanting "you got it, you got it ..." I have tour withdrawals. At least I have 4 more hours of versus coverage to catch up to. I actually found myself on TV. Stage 5, and the climb, as they make that last right turn switchback, there is a guy on the right, in yellow .... what a dork!

I'm giving myself the afternoon off, but I have to go grocery shopping. I wish I could ride.

Mine is in a locker. Going for a ride after work.
Beautiful scenery this morning though. I had to slow down when I realized the sun was starting to light the trees along Foothill. Best morning this year yet.

Off in 10 minutes. Get home, dress, and see if I can make it to top of Montebello, and back before it gets dark.

I rode 57 miles with 3256 feet of climbing. A nice Lake Loop. Of course I didn't wear sunblock, so I have a checkerboard helmet sunburn. I was passed by three UC Davis riders in Napa County, good day for hooky. I had the day off.

Niice couple 'o hours after work, saw half dozen folk on EM, including 'Zippy (that was you, right?), also the tiedie lady, and the "old" guy on the Look with hi viz jacket.
Caught a brief glimpse of the Bald Eagle again - nothing else is that big and powerful around here, on wings anyway - a few dayold calves gambolin' round, a fine day!
Old Myata 310 much better with new saddle, bartape, rear tyre (old one had a cut!), and clean quiet drivetrain! Found that the old style chains require more persistance in getting lube to penetrate, as the pin rides in a tube, hence lube can only get there via between the sideplates, where the new style allows lube to get there under the roller where the sideplates come together to form the "tube" that the pin rides in. The new style is much easier to clean and lube, also much lighter... and quieter.
Aaanway, on Monday I was a squeaky-creaky, quite embarassing!

So I took the day off yesterday with big plans for a major ride to break in the new shoes and pedals, and I got the phone call I've been waiting for---my son and his wife just welcomed their new baby girl into the world! So I high-tailed it over to Roseville instead and got to hold my new beautiful granddaughter all day. (And I squeezed in a short ride with my son before dark.) A perfect day off.

I managed to take a *very* long lunch today and climbed Mt. D. Slowly. I rode from San Ramon, 36 miles, 4,119 feet of climbing (that seems like a bit much, but I guess the rollers on Crow Canyon and Blackhawk add in quite a bit when you ride them both ways). Took me more than 3 hours total - boy, do I need to work on my climbing speed! We saw one guy on the mountain who didn't know the route (he started in Berkeley) who had it written on his leg with a Sharpie - brilliant!
JB
PS - Sean, as usual, has me beat - I've managed 11 rides with (if my new computer can be trusted) a bit more than 25,000 feet of climbing.

No hookie this time. I was able to go out and ride around Alviso for lunch. Solo ride for 23 miles in an hour:15. Wasn't enough but better than nothing.
