OK, I'll bite. How about this? It's the 150K route from the Santa Cruz Radonneurs, except we'll start from Half Moon Bay.

Say 8:30 meetup at the HMB Fire Station, corner of Higgins Canyon Rd. and Main Street.

I'm in - depending on how late I'm working the finish check-in the night before for the San Francisco 300K brevet ...

Not quite.

Here's the description from the Santa Cruz Randonneurs website:

La Honda 150K Populaire:This is a good early season ride to build your fitness before trying a 200k brevet. The route goes north along the ocean highway from Santa Cruz, then turns into the coastal hills on Gazos Creek road. From there the route passes through serene redwood forests. Ascending Haskins Hill before La Honda is the hardest climb of the day and the final mile before the summit will test everyone's legs. There are also numerous short climbs along the route and most riders will be glad they brought a triple crankset along, while the strongest riders will want a 39x27 low gear in spots. From San Gregorio and Pescadero, the route retraces itself back to Santa Cruz. All in all, it will be a fine day of cycling--but come prepared with clothing layers for variable spring weather that might make the brevet even harder.

So you're mistakin' Tunitas Creek for Rt 84/La Honda Rd. I believe SesameCrunch is talking about going down Hiway 1, then up 84 from San Gregorio to La Honda, then back down Pescadero Rd (over Haskins Hill) towards Pescadero bakery.

According to this route, after Pescadero you do down Cloverdale past Butano State Park, to Gazos Creek Rd to rejoin Hiway 1.

SC, after that, would you want to continue down Hiway 1 towards Santa Cruz, or head back north after Gazos Creek?

Could head partway towards Santa Cruz, say as far as Ano Nuevo or Davenport bakery and then head back. Gazos Creek Rd to Davenport is about 15 miles each way.

Also, one could do the Gazos Creek/Cloverdale/Stage Rd portion heading north, depending on the wind.

I was thinking we'd first zip all the way down Hwy1 (maybe stopping at Davenport instead of Santa Cruz). Then go back North (before it gets too windy), head inland at Gazos Creek for a more leisurely, scenic pace along Cloverdale. At Pescadero, we'll climb a little bit up Haskins Hill, then back down Hwy 84.

Since we're starting in HMB, we would just turn around at Davenport, instead of going all the way to Santa Cruz (that would make the ride over 100 miles).

Oh, did I mention that there's a mandatory stop at the bakery in Pescadero ? Yummmmm.

Sounds like a great ride! But since I'm riding that 300 K Jo mentioned, I don't think I'll make it.

Take lots of pics please.

Oooo... I was planning on taking my daughter to Arastradero with her schoolmate and her dad on Sunday. If that falls through I'd be in for this.

Anyone want to start around San Mateo and go up OLH and down 84 to rendezvous at the junction of HWY 1 and 84?

Edit: The same group can join me in return be heading up 84 after Haskins then up W OLH to 35 down E 84 and back

I think the hard part of this trip is to fit the tandem in the car.

Just have her hop on and steer, then you can pull it with the car. easy as pie!

Glad to hear you and your wife will join us. It will indeed be less than a century. I figure around 80 miles. It will also be relatively flat. You'll also have a bailout option to not climb Haskins Hill. I can guarantee a pleasant ride for her!!

OK, no one's biting on the longer route starting around San Mateo.

I guess, I will start in HMB. I usually try to start all rides from my house (using transit if necessary).
