The "other" Sunday ride...

Well, since I hadn't ridden in about 2.5 mos I decided to take the easier ride and reintroduce my body to the road bike. So I joined the <cough, cough> other forum ride and did what was supposed to be an easy 35 miler at a nice and easy pace. That soon went out the window when the testosterone of the faster riders began to flow and the ride turned out to be about 48 miles for us. Some turned it into a 50-52+ miler when they got, uumm, a wee bit lost. It also didn't help that we started at Chain Reaction in Los Altos first instead of at the primary meeting spot at the VA Hospital. Oh well... lesson learned.

But although I was bringing up the rear most of the way and cramping on top of it in the last half of the ride I still had a great time finally getting my butt on the new bike. I'm sure the lack of sleep the night before from the new baby didn't help much either...

A few BF'ers were out there as well: Thien(azuredrptp), Andy(NeCro), Gary1(steelblue), Jack(superunleaded) Glad to hear you are okay since that kid decided to turn in front of you on Canada! And some others I may not have had the pleasure of meeting.

We also got some free socks, stickers and girl scout cookies for showing up. And according to Andy the cookies were made from real girl scouts!

There is another group ride planned for next month some time as well. They are trying to make it monthly thing. So hopefully you guys can come out as well. Link: April 6th group ride thread

Between 50-60 people showed and rode:

Here is the link to more of the ride pics/thread:
RBR Group ride

Gary

PS - I hope it's okay to talk about other rides not started on BF... I know I see a lot of the same folks on RBR as well so I'm guessing it's okay.

I wanted to checkout the coeds at the Stanford campus.

sounds interesting, is the VA near the train station?

I may not be able to make Ron's bday ride so this one sounds good.

I pulled the insert out of my carbon fork, might be awhile before I can get that fixed.

Yes it is. That's one of the reasons they chose the VA as the starting point. The next one is on 4/6, same route.

EDIT: G1 beat me to it...

Not sure where that BART station is as I live more up north in Daly City. But the addreess is 3801 Miranda Ave. in Palo Alto. It's right off of Foothill Expwy close to Page Mill Road, if that helps any.

Here's the link again to next month's ride: https://forums.roadbikereview.com/sho...d.php?t=123525

The nearest BART station there is 20 miles away in Milbrae. You'll have to use Caltrain. There's one in Palo Alto and Mtn View. Both are at least 4-5 miles from the VA.

BTW, thats my place of employment.

Sorry I missed it. Looks like it was a lot of fun.

Good to see there are choices. But I do think we have a definite niche here, with our own cast of characters.

There is more activity on this site. Not really sure why, personally I think the other is a far superior site for information, reviews, and news/race coverage. But for some reason this site has more chatter. The other site is owned and run by friends of mine, their passion for cycling runs high.

Hmmn, Sean, so *if* we ever did a combined group ride, you and Thien, and a select few others would probably be the only ones who'd be able to mix and match kit, huh?

There's definitely a difference in noise level between the two sites..

Well we could, but I would wear my team kit, and Im sure AThien would wear the RBR kit since he is the site admin. He is doing a great job too. The tour coverage was very well done, as was the handmade bike show.
