Los Vaqueros 3-Mile TT
I think they're having trouble getting enough registrants... come on, this could be fun!

I would do it - it's my local ride. But it's the same day as the Devil Mountain Double and I'll be manning a SAG stop near the summit of Mount Hamilton.

Hummm. I thought this would be all populated with fast fast fast riders by now. If no one is showing up, I'd do it, having done my last time trial in about 1983 and having not improved over my very slow speed.... I just don't want anyone to SEE me do it.

Looks like the enter by mail date is past. You can enter teh day of the event though.
Looks like you need to be there at 8am.
DiabloScott, you going?
I've got the Chico Wildflower the next day, but I guess an early 3 mile huff-and-puff won't blow me up for that.

It's also the same day as Wente crit in Livermore. Real racers don't do stuff like this anyway, not to say there won't be some fast folks there. We'll be in the same age group Curtis (second to oldest(!)).
PZip - help us out with some strategy... I've never ridden it.

It's very windy, slightly uphill until you get to the actual dam. The final hill is steep, I'd guess 7 or 8% and maybe twice as long as the final approach up Diablo. Usually there is a gate across the road at this point and you have to walk your bike around. I'm assuming they will have the gate open, so you'll have a nice little downhill before you begin the final climb.
I wish I could do it. Maybe I could even place in my age group.
The Delta Pedalers Sunday ride always goes out that way.

Thanks for posting - I am always looking for TTs. This doesn't work for me because I'll be at the Wente Road Race that day. Do they plan on having more TTs in the future?

OK. I'm doing this. Someone needs to come in last.
As near as I can tell I need to get there about 7:30 and sign up.

OK! After check in they're supposed to have the route open for warm-ups. I'll buy you a cuppa if I win.
This is billed as "the inaugural", so I presume that means they're having another one next year.

I don't race. I don't time trial. But when Diablo Scott posted that the Los Vaqueros Dam Time Trial wasn't drawing many riders I thought "What the heck" and decided to sign up. It's almost in my back yard. It was only fifteen bucks, and I got T-shirt and water bottle. I can live with that.
The course is only three miles long with 321 feet of climbing. It includes a nice steep 11.9% climb to the top of the dam at the end. I'd ridden there before and figured "How bad can it really get in three miles?" Actually not too bad. The most painful part is that my throat hurts from breathing so darn hard.
With the climb and all I was guessing I'd take fifteen minutes or so. But there was a tail wind, and I was pretty excited. I made it in 11.10. (Average speed-15.8) I wore my heart monitor and was surprised to see I was riding around 95% max most of the way, and at 100% for most of of the climb. In my age group of five Diablo Scott took first, and I came in third. I was fifth overall, but it was a very small field.
I had a good time. The folks running it were very nice, as were the other riders. I think this has potential to be a very popular yearly event for the non-racer crowd.

Well hopefully it gathers a little more publicity next time. I had no clue of it, and since I missed the Canada Rd. TT I would have jumped on this one. Albeit I would have missed this time around no matter what since my mother in law was in town.
Hopefully they do it again soon, if not, I'll get ready for next year.

Probably not until next year.
It really was a fun event and has a lot of potential.
In spite of the low-key nature, I think 80% of the riders' times were within a minute of each other.
