Good report, but yeah, what he said. Make it easier for me. Like this

Just 4 miles short of a 300 mile week... I'm late on getting my ride report on here:

I think Alan and Curtis covered it pretty good. I really enjoyed that ride and will do it again next year. It was nice to meet so many knew people and the day was really long. Bummed I didn't get to meet NYgirl777 and her other half...I enjoyed the comany of Curtis/Tricia/Alan, you guys are just great people and I always have the best time riding with you. Always an adventure. It was so cool to see my friend Deyon and meet her girlfriend Sanborn. I rode all the way up Henry Coe with Deyon. Looking forward to riding this Saturday in the " Day in a Ride" Love you lots! Did anyone do both rides? I actually did pretty well, my quads and under my arms were the most sore aside from my butt. I'm ready to go again now though.

    On to the Primavera
Wanted to grab my Klein but front tire was flat. So grabbed my trusty “Raven” and headed out the door once again to punish myself for yet another 100+ miles.

I arrived at James Logan school parking lot a little later than I wanted to. It was even colder than the start of the Tierra Bella. I dressed just right. If you start a little cold you’ll usually warm to the right temp within 15 minutes of riding…Maybe… With a quick check in. One note though. One of the check in people looked over to me and said “ Your Pete right?” I said yep, and he said he recognized me from the “Bike Forums!” Wow! I felt like a rockstar!

I took off and wow was I stiff and sore from yesterday’s ride. I immediately got in with a group of Triathlon types. Margret was training for an Ironman and was riding a nice Felt TT bike. She was with her trainer Dennis and another athlete John. Margret was a very nice and interesting character. A very strong rider too. We conversed and made great time getting to the start of Calavaras wall. 1st rest stop. I mostly soloed through most of Calavaras. I really was hoping to suck some wheel after yesterday. I tried to get in with a tandem line but I wasn’t feeling the love. Some little groups don’t like outsiders and I got the “vibe”.

After the 2nd rest stop I soloed again and I was starting to feel better. In Sunol I picked up a fast paceline with a TeamTraining guy who was just huge! I thought he looked like the “Hulk”. I’ll call him Bruce Banner. He had a couple of Amigo’s whipping off his wheel like a couple of kite tail weights. They were representing the Benicia bike club. I hopped on and they were great riders. I like riders with a steady cadence and not that pedal, pedal, pedal, coast, pedal, pedal, pedal, coast. It’s inane, and it screws up everyone down the line.

I made it to the beginning of the climb up to the windmills and I dropped off. I knew I was pushing the limit and wanted to take my own time climbing. I couldn’t get much speed going down hill due to the headwinds kicking up. I got to lunch and made it known immediately to the ladies helping at the food line that it was my birthday. Woman always start treating you like your 5 years old and I enjoy that. I have “attention mommy issues”. As the guys rolled their eyes the mommies sang “Happy Birthday” to me! I ate a gigantic mega-birthday sandwich. Talked and annoyed as many people as possible at the break.

I kept an eye on who was leaving, being the parasite of the day, I needed a good paceline to get me back to Dublin grade. I jumped on a big line and right away hit a rock and flatted. Nice! As I’m changing my flat a big group cruised by and one of the guys yells “ hey look…the birthday boy got a flat! Boo hoo…”. Oh well it came back to bite me. I put in the first tube but the screw thingy broke off. Tube 2 was ok. A sag guy pulled in and had a pump so I didn’t have to use a co2 cartridge. His name was Al and I told him that was my Dad’s name. Nice guy. I took off.

Seemed like the ride was a little thin, maybe due to a lot of people had done the Tierra Bella yesterday and the Sea Otter Classic.

The headwind was really strong and I really didn’t want to ride alone… Then comes along Gerald and Alan in Webcore kits like a green tsunami coming over the horizon… In my mind I’m thinking… Way!… no way! Way!, no way… WAY! Like a surfer hooking on to a Mavericks wave, I push my board into the maelstrom… I always feel weird in this situation. I feel like a pilot fish tagging along next to a great white shark, no input trying to remain transparent but weak and feeble at the same time. They we’re talking a mile a minute and I didn’t want to be the budinsky like I am at times due to my social neediness…

I actually started feeling better, the legs we’re coming back so the food and rest were working. So we catch a light and I pull the old ice breaker and take a picture of them. Gerald say’s hey take anotha shot… New Yorker… I already like him. He makes a certain hand gesture that would be victory or peace, or F.U. in certain parts of the world. I start talking to Alan who is a Webcore Vet and Gerald in his first year racing. They turn out to be a lot of fun to ride with and I end up having an awesome time with these great guys. At one point Gerald says his butt is killing him and I asked him if he had a sandwich at lunch… He responds “ yeah I did, but I didn’t put it on my a**!! Ha, ha ha… So I answer his wise NY comment with my Boston proper and say well, you take 2 slices of bologna out and put a slice on each cheek for padding!

We we’re getting a little toasted on the Dublin grade and made it to the last rest stop. We hit Palamaros climb and Alan took off. He’s a big guy and I couldn’t believe he could get up that mountain like that. I tried to keep up but he had gotten to much of a jump on me. They took a break and I shot down as fast as I could to get some distance on them but I spaced out after Niles canyon and took a wrong turn and had to double back. They caught me and right before we turned into the finish I jumped with everything I had left and sprinted past them while they rolled their eyes at me while a made a big scene about my tremendous victory over the the Webcore power hitters! I was bummed when I found out my friend Deyon had been waiting to say happy birthday to me but had split.

All in All it was my fastest and the most fun Primavera to date. 6:45. Even faster than the Tierra Bella the day before… 7:05. I actually felt better too today. I think being with good people really sustains you pretty well along with big cold cut sandwich. I think every ride I’ll tell the girls it’s my birthday and get that extra something at the rest stops.

    Pete
