4th of July Davis Crit: Report

So I finally have time to post my race report. I should have known it would be one of those races when on second lap some rider made the wrong left turn (too early). Since then things didn't get any better. Seems like people were all over the place with no real clear lines through the turns. About half way through some guy managed to crash himself out. Seems like he locked his front wheel. I barely avoided riding in to him.

I lost count of how many times I heard "On the inside", followed by some suicidal monkey trying to squise between me and the curb. Let me tell you making a 90 degree turn while finding yourself squized between a rider on the outside, only couple inches away, and a darwin award nominee who decided to cut inside makes for a very interesting experience. If I had a frame pump I would have smacked someone if I heard "One the inside" one more time. I think most of them were juniors.

Towards the beginning I did try to go for a prim, but while I was trying to convince my legs to produce some top end power Stanfurd rider, like Energizer bunny on crack, blew past me and the guy whose wheel I was on. The rest of the time I spent mid pack since every time I tried to move up I encountered suicidal monkeys I mentioned above. The last lap was as bizare as the rest of the race. About first half either decided they had a chance or they had nothing to live for, and took off. People in the middle thought they had something to live for and just set up, while people at the back seemed to take a tea break. Unfortunately at that point I was behind people with reasons to live, and by the time I navigated through them it was 100 feet before the finish line. I tried a half hearted sprint for 29th, because thats how I roll. In the end very disappointing race with another pack finish. I did this race twice before as a CAT 5, and if memory doesn't fail me the skill level was higher then in this CAT 4 charlie foxtrot.

P.S. I think I heard someone say "Wassup" to me with about a lap to go.
