August 10 GPC Tandem Rally ride report
Considering the mileage the day before, I thought this to be a recovery day for us. That quickly went out the window, as several tandems set a fast pace out towards Sunol and Calaveras. Our team felt really good on the Calaveras climb, but as it got warmer, it began to wear on us. We also tended to socialize a lot, so at the end of the day, we were in the tail end of the group. We met Mark from GPC and his Pegoretti, nice bunch of people, will definitely ride with them again! I had hoped that Team Alameda would make a stronger showing today (we were the only two representin'), but I thought we left a good impression on the main Calaveras climb as we dropped every single bike we came across.
Oh, and we met the one and only Zach Kaplan on this ride. Great guy, and a looker of a stoker to boot!
A good sized bunch, numbering possibly in the 30s.
At Crank 2, one of the regroup spots. We later got free gels, socks, and water bottles on the way back.
The owner, Bryon, fitting someone (Anthony and Tom's counterpart, in fact)
Mark from GPC
More here.
