Last year they just wildly handed out beer. It was grand... Except they ran out on day 2.

Was there a revolt? Any casualties?

I got mine. I was content.

(my teammates & I also ditched the ride on day 2 and went wine tasting, so lack of beer that day made no matter to me)

I'll be riding again but I won't be heading up a team this year. I'll be riding with Thien in <cough, cough...> RBR kit! hehe!

Also, I'm involved in my friend's wedding on Sunday so I'll only be able to ride 75 miles on Saturday.

First one to track me down at the finish line can have my beer tickets!

Gary

That sucks. What kind of brake is it? I might have something that can work... in a pinch. Ba-da-bum.

Thanks for the offer Blast Radius! But if I can't get it to work I have a set of ultegra brakes, I was going to return them. Weird how I discovered it, cable looked like it may be frayed so I loosened it and took a look. Putting it back on the bolt just spins.

Morning sure came early today, my friends & I started setting up our rest stop at Mike's Bikes at 5:30 am. gah.

I saw Curtis & Tricia & Gary but I only had time to say quick hellos. We were set up along the path after the bike shop (not in front of the shop like it was last year, thank goodness). Being the first rest stop, riders tended to show up in large groups so it was often pretty mobbed, and bike traffic tended to pile up near the tent & the portapotties, so a few of us were busy going back & forth asking people to not block the path. 99.9% of the riders were really great, but there were a few I could have used a forklift to deal with, oy.

But when all was said & done, we had a great time and it felt good to help out. We're already talking about staffing a rest stop again next year.

It was good to see you!! I'm glad you waved me down. There is always such a flurry of people at that first stop! It was probably the most well stocked stop as the others afterwards didn't have much of a variety or they ran out of stuff. (that or I was too slow to get the good stuff... which was probably the case!)

I only got to ride the first day since I was involved in a wedding on Sunday. But my legs are not complaining about missing Day 2! hehe!

See you next year. Or maybe I'll just volunteer instead of sufferring on the bike!

Since the food selection at the rest stops left a bit to be desired last year, we actually brought some extra food with us, just in case. We ended up being stocked pretty well food-wise, but my group brought the bagels, cream cheese, peanut butter and more bananas. Glad we did that - pretty much everything was gone by the end of our shift

Personally I appreciate a BEFORE thread and AFTER thread, so we don't have to page through tons of verbage already covered...
Maybe a standard of this forum?
Can't wait to here the full reports!
Pete
