Sunday the 28th Ride

Since I haven't heard about other rides, thought I would throw this one out as a possibility. I'm open to other routes as well (Davis for example?).

I've worked out a combination of a couple of rides. The loop can either start in Folsom, or near me on the ARBT at Hagan Park. From the start, the Loomis loop followed by a loop around Folsom. If we start in Folsom, I expect a little short of 50 miles. If we start here near where I am, it'll be more like 75. Either way, I'm likely to cycle to the start. There aren't any big climbs on this route, though the accumulation of hills adds up to over 3000 feet of climbing.

I'm thinking 9 am start. There's a grocery store on the route with a pretty good deli for lunch. Karen's Bakery is not open on Sunday's .

We have to hang close to home, so we're meeting at the VV clocktower at 8:30 to do a Gordon Valley Loop with a run up Twin Sisters. No drop, all are welcome.

We'll be on the tandem if anyone needs to grab a wheel...

If I'm there, I'll join you. I don't know right now. The new cassette hasn't arrived.

You already know you can make it within .6 of the top. C'mon, you'll do just fine!

What's the Gordon Valley Loop like? Is that basically what we did last time?

Yes, but after the bridge where we stopped to answer Nature's call, we turn left, not right. So you might be 8 miles less but +?? feet in climbing.

And there's no reason we can't catch our breath at the second cattle guard again.

That's an attractive prospect. And I think I fixed my Garmin. It was auto turning itself off on bumps. Waiting for the glue to dry.

Hmmmmm....

If those greyhounds pass us again, we may feel compelled to respond.

Then again, we can be the ant-greyhound....

I am up from the Peninsula and will be out for a ride. What is the Gordan Valley loop? How long is it? I was thinking winters loop with cantalow (excuse my spelling on that).

I'm guessing around 40 to 50 miles. Twin Sisters is a pretty darned good climb. Tougher than Cantelow. Come along and join us!

You'll laugh at Cantelow once you've ascended Twin Sisters. However, we can lead you over Cantelow after TS if you haven't had enough. Meet us at the Vacaville Town Square/Clock Towers at 8:30 and we'll show you how it's done Solano county style.

Fun time today! Thanks for the invite. I'm thrilled I was able to make it to the top of the Sisters, and that my Garmin seems to be fixed. That was great. Also, my back tire is soft. I'm going to have to pop it off and have a look at it.

EDIT: Looks like I got a pin hole. Very slow leak. Just patched it. I need that shipment to get here! This back tire has about had it.

Great ride. RedRider and cgallagh had work issues to deal with, (good thing they were close to home), so it was JoelS, chickenmonkey, Karen Cook and myself. JoelS is the man, once again climbing Twin Sisters with an 39/23.
Here is Joel grinding it out up on of the many switchbacks, notice he is smiling and waving:

Here is chickenmonkey and Karen coming up the second half of the climb:

JoelS reaches the top:

chickenmonkey at the top:

A view from the top:

Crossing the cattleguards confirmed that Joel's Garmin repair was successful. Now when you get your cassette are you going to come climb Mix Canyon Joel? I need someone to come suffer with me.

Can you spot TwinSisters in this graph?

Compare that spike to the first 3.5 miles on Mix. For reference, the little bump after Mix is Cantelow:

Mix? I think that'll have to be done on my other bike. Might be game though.

Nice ride! Thanks for the tour. I will try to hit that one again.

Joel: I thought your tire was looking flatish.

It was. It was soft this morning when I added air, so it must have happened yesterday. Glad it was a real slow leak. I needed a sink full of water to find it.

For the first time in many months we passed up a terrific ride to be adults and work.

I may give this ride a go during the week, when things settle down a bit.

Glad you had a good time and on the pics.

Did Karen ride the Trucker or the Trek?
