Friend visiting next week... routes around the City?
My buddy from TX is visiting next week and we were planning on touring SF on Friday, Oct 3rd, including a quick jaunt across the GG Bridge. But I am a horrible guide that really doesn't know the bike routes to take to show off the City.
Does anyone have a route sheet in the 30 mile range that highlights SF? I was thinking of starting at Sports Basement at Crissy Fields and then hit places like the Wharf, Embarcadero, GG Bridge, Sausalito, Cliff House, GG Park, etc...
Also, what side of the Bridge can we ride over on a Friday?
Better yet, anyone want to join us and help me guide the ride?
He's the one that got me into cycling back in 2006 when I was also living in the Dallas area. So I owe him a lot and want to have him check out the City (while the wives do their own shopping tour of the City...). But again, I suck as a tour guide!!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Gary

There is a 30 mile tourist route on the back of the SFBC bike route map:
https://www.sfbike.org/?maps
Here's another map that has some popular Marin tourist routes:

GG Bridge info
Weekdays
EAST sidewalk 5 am to 3:30 pm
WEST sidewalk 3:30 pm to 9 pm
EAST sidewalk 9 pm to 5 am via remotely controlled security gates located at both ends of the EAST sidewalk. Cyclists press the "buzzer" located near the closed security gate. After security staff locates the cyclist on a security camera, the gate is opened remotely. Cyclists repeat this procedure to get through the security gate at the other end.

Hey G,
Damn...I could go if it's Saturday. Instead of starting from Sports Basement, you may want to start at the Embarcadero Bart station, go along the north edge of the city. This way you don't have to traverse back and forth to the wharf. On weekdays, you have to ride on the east side of the bridge and you have to deal with the tourist. Try this route.

Pete! My savior!! Hey man... if you are free that day and don't mind more of a leisure touristy ride I'll take you up on being our tour guide! (since I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag, let alone where all the cool sites in the city to see are!)
Anyone else up for a small group ride to welcome my buddy? If Pete is leading ya know it'll be good!
BTW, what's the significance of Oct 3rd for you?
I'll PM you as well to discuss details!
Thanks!
Gary

PM'd you back...
We'll have plenty to do...maybe we'll start on the Embarcadero for coffee at "Reds Coffee House"...Hoping there's no fog, but weather is usually good in Oct.

Anyone else up for the ride led by Pete? I'm praying for good weather!
Pete, I'll call you a little bit later tonight just to check in.

I'm going to try to take 1/2 day off since I still have 18 PTO days left for 2008.
