Wheelbuilder recommendations for Davis/Sacramento area?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a particularly savvy wheelbuilder in Davis or Sacramento? I'm relatively new to the area and I didn't want to start calling shops and asking them, "are you guys any good at building up a wheel?" Thanks!

Aaron at Apex Cycles in Davis built a solid wheel for me. He seemed to know a thing or two about wheelbuilding. I've also heard of a good wheelbuilder in Winters at Velo City (not sure on a name). There's too many shops in Sac for me to comment. Plus I have no experience with them.

Yup, but I have to test a few builds before I go commercial!

PS - you can use the tensiometer whenever you want.

I'll take you up on that offer if/when my wheel parts ever arrive. This hub/rim group buy thing is getting a little out of hand.

Myke Berna is the owner of Velo City in Winters. Good guy, ex-pro mechanic (still wrenches for teams during the Tour of California though), and built a good wheel for me, cheap.

Never heard of Apex. Where is it?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Aaron was going to be my default, but I thought I'd see what sort of recommendations others had.

Apex is in downtown Davis on D St. between 1st and 2nd streets. They specialize in fixed/ss stuff, but Aaron (owner) seems like a wealth of knowledge of all things bike related.

His shop is back from the street next to Cafe Mediterranee. It's behind the old Hydroponics store.

Apex is just a one man show (plus family). I go to him for any work that I can't do myself. Fast turnaround and good prices. I went to Ken's once and they said 2 weeks before they can even look at my bike. That's when I found Apex.

Edit: I take that back.. I've seen an apprentice mechanic in there a couple times.

Thanks for the info on Apex. I'll stop in next time I'm downtown.

As for mechanics, I've had great luck with Wheelworks and have them do all my work.
