Have any of you ridden in the Tierra Bella in the previous years? I recently started riding on the pavement and am wanting to ride the 100K in April just curious what the climb is like on Canada road. Similar to Fremont peak?

I wouldn't call anything on Canada Road a climb, a 100 meter roller (3-4 percent max) maybe but not a climb.

Different Canada road... and the 100k route goes down it, not up.

To the OP: there are route profiles posted on the tierra bella site. Compare those to profiles of climbs you have ridden to get an idea of what the new one will be like. ACTC has a really cool road profile viewer which may have both climbs in its database. It's always a good idea to have lower gearing than you think you will need, just in case.

The signature climb on Tierra Bella is "The Metcalf Mauler" - I'm not sure if it's on the 100km route though.

Metcalf is sometimes on the 100 mile route, never on the 100K route.

Tierra Bella is an early season century. The route is mostly flat to rolling with 1 or 2 short climbs thrown in to keep it interesting. Usually, weather (rain and cold and wind) is a bigger issues than hills.

For 2008 instead of Metcalf road the route climbed up to Henry Coe Park instead.

Not sure which one is worse ... Metcalf or Henry Coe.

This annual event is sponsered by the club that I belong to which is ACTC. Usually we alll work the event but have a worker's ride that does the route. About Metcaf and Henry Coe, I would do Henry Coe anytime. The climb up Metcalf does not have a "No-Puke" Zone.

Good reminder for this one. I plan to do it this year; I was signed up for last year and had to bow out due to bones I broke in a crash

Due to Easter and another huge event this year, it looks like the Primavera will be the day after the Tierra Bella again.

If you can only do one, I like the Primavera better: less crowds and continuously nicer scenery. The Primavera folks claim that they have the best 100K route in California. I think the loop around Lake Tahoe is more interesting, but at least the Primavera is worth mentioning in the same sentence.

This is always a fun ride. The rest stops are always well stocked with all sorts of goodies. The SAG is very good as well. Good way to start the season of organized rides.

Just be sure to get the jersey. They have consistent had the coolest ride jerseys around.
