That picture's awesome. I remember Pete talking about that on top of Diablo the other week - perhaps this should end up being a NorCal tradition reserved for the "big" climbs. Fast'uns have to carry 4-5 cowbells to cheer the rest up the final climb....
Great reports everyone, looks like it was a superb day. Alain, you must be very proud of your son - climbing Hamilton at his age on a MTB is a heck of an achievement :thumb

You need to start a "Critique my position/form" thread with this picture!
Hope you're feeling better today...although from experience, I'm guessing it'll be a few days.

Great day, great ride leader, great weather. Thanks to all for the welcome at the top.
Special thanks to Marko Polo and scottmorrison for the company on the lower 2 slopes, and extra-special thanks to bigbossman, who got me through the last 4 or 5 miles, when seppukku seemed like a viable option.
And thanks Pete for ringing that bell like a nut when I was slogging up that last mile. It gave me something else to think about -- although you don't want to know what I was thinking.
bikingshearer
aka "the Cinzano guy."
PS - For those of you who heard my two-word commentary when I first dragged my butt up to the tippy-top: I stand by my comments 100%

Here's an idea ... for those not up to the big climb, be a SAG and be at the top, with goodies, and 4-5 cowbells ... need more cowbells!

It was great weather and a great ride. It was my first with anyone from the forum and everyone seemed really nice, accelerating away from me up the hill.
I did manage to drag my way to the top, it was my first time going all the way to the observatory which was as much of a challenge as I was expecting. I don't have any pictures, sadly. I was the big guy on the black Specialized with the Hells Canyon jersey and the bike-gear tattoo on his leg.

Thoughts from the day...
BikingShearer - You know even more useless trivia than I do. And that's saying something.
Scott - thanks for pretending you were as slow as the rest of the autobus, at least for the first 2/3rds of the ride. I can't believe you could turn over the crank that slowly and still stay upright!
Pete, thanks for encouragement and instant energy transfer to help me get up the last mile of the climb. And for the honor of "passing you" at the top... Oh yeah, the the cowbell too!
Bossman - You are completely full of BS, but it's the most entertaining BS I've ever heard.
All - thanks for the great ride and great day. I'm no longer a Mt. Hamilton virgin. (except for that time in college when I drove to the top and... )
A few pics...
BigBossMan (pretending that he stands when he climbs) leads bikingshearer on the lower part of Mt. Ham climb...
If you look close you can see the top...
A pensive Pete...
The heavyweight division looks in the mirror...
