Tour tourist

Hi,

I am planning on driving from my home in Vancouver, BC to take in Stage 1 of the Tour of California, with or without a riding buddy. (early stages of plans...)

Any advice for solo and/or group rides around Davis and/or Santa Rosa?

Never visited the area, looking for scenic rides, mid-level climbing, maybe 17-19 mph., 30-50 miles.

Thanks in advance.

A couple of great resources for getting in on group rides as well as route map information are the Santa Rosa Cycling Club https://srcc.memberlodge.com/calendar and The Davis Bike Club https://www.davisbikeclub.org/.
Sonoma County(Santa Rosa and it's surrounding areas) has incredible riding with more hills, scenery, etc. (I may be a bit biased as it's home turf). https://www.bikemonkey.net/ also has a lot of events and information on the local bike scene.

Here are some rides in and around Davis:

https://daviswiki.org/Bicycle_Rides?a...ect=Bike+Rides

I would recommend either the Cantelow, Mix, or Cardiac/Berryessa ride to fit your bill of 30-50 mi with climbing.

You can probably post here and get several people to join you when you're in town for such a ride. I know Joel, Deb, Joe and the gang are always up for a ride in the Davis area (even though Joel always tries to get us up into that Sacramento area of his )

Thanks the great links.

Riding with some folks would be really fun. Just got back on the road this morning, and had to dodge the last of the snow still hanging around. Have been filling my belly with Christmas goodies while the snow has been filling our roads (very unusual, was actually looking forward to a Christmas day and/or New Year's Day ride but no such luck this year)

I will post with some suggestions as I check out these great routes and see how the 5 pounds I gained is feeling on the bike.

Jeff

In addition, there are variations upon variations of flat rides around Davis if you're not in climbing shape.

Haha, yeah, I don't know yet, my ride home from work yesterday was in the fog and the dark, so safety rather than speed was the order.

And it's a flat route, so my climbing has to be on weekends.

Still, it is so great to be back in the saddle!
