Wife suggests a trip to Half Moon Bay. Says I can take my bike. Should I say yes?

We'd go in April.

Any nice rides around there?

Tunitas Creek Road is right down the street. That is part of the Tour of California route.

There are also some paths along the coast. And of course you can always just ride along the hwy and enjoy the amazing views. The weather should be pretty good. Bring your bike and enjoy it!

A nice 50 mile route would be to take Hwy 1 out to Tunitas Creek, climb that, descend Kings Mountain, take 84 to the coast, and cut across Stage Road back onto Hwy 1. About 5200 feet of climbing (or ~52 miles and 5400 feet if you take a "shortcut" up Old La Honda).

Heck yeah! You name it, it's here.

- Long flat ride? Go along the ocean for 45 miles without a stop sign or light down to Santa Cruz.
- Hills, you want hills? Just pick 'em. It's about 2500 ft. to Skyline Drive. A number of routes to take up to there.
- Quiet country roads with no cars? Moooooo, baaaaaaa, quack quack. Lots of scenic, quiet farm roads like Stage, Verde, Lobitos Creek, and others.
- Redwood trees? Got 'em.

Yup, nice riding here. Weather is incredibly nice in April. Let me know when you come. I'll ride with you.

Oh, btw, I live there. :thumb:

Don't forget the loop out to Pescadero (Pescadero Road to Stage Road). If your time is limited, I would rather do that than Kings Mountain.

I think the SF peninsula coast (roughly Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz, from the coast up to Hwy 35) is the best bicycling area in the whole Bay Area. Every road is great for bicycling, except for Hwy 92 and Hwy 17 and maybe uphill Hwy 84. If you don't have time to explore them all, the must-do roads are Tunitas Creek Road, Pescadero Road, Alpine Road, and Stage Road.

While I can't imagine asking or waiting for a wife for permission to bring a bike, let's just say the riding around here is way better than Davis. Unless you prefer flattish riding into the wind....
