Slowpoke ride today, anyone want to joinup?

Finally some sunshine! Thinking Fruitvale BART to the Bay Trail and down to Freemont? Probably BART back. Leave around noon or so. Mostly flat, mostly bike trail.

Am I the only underemployed loser here

who can take a midweek day off? LOL

Took BART to Freemont intending on riding back to Oakland. Good plan except I got lost a couple times. You know those East and West of the HIlls maps? They work great unless you leave them in your desk... Anyway, finally found the trail, but not til I crossed 92.

I can't pass up a taco truck

Most of the trail was unpaved but fairly smooth. Storms washed out the part that connects to Marina Way so I took a small detour and found my way...not until after I tried to trail it through some pretty deep muck. Had to unclog the brakes, but soon got back on track.

I wussed out and jumped back on BART at San Leandro. I played around too long and wanted to get back for dinner. Still managed to clock in 38.5 miles today on a fun and scenic trip.

Nice. I have eyed those trails before but then avoided them because I didn't feel like riding on so much unpaved surfaces.

I have ridden between Oakland and Fremont a couple times and had bad experiences both times. My first route took me through the wrong part of Oakland at the wrong time of day Second route I got lost. I stick to bart when going through that area now.

I can find the back roads from Alameda down to Hesperian, but can't find an alternate route south that keeps me off Hesperian. I'll have to find out from a club member if he took back streets or that unpaved trail.

Staying off Hesperian is pretty tough unless you want to go to the other side of the freeway (880). You can go Winton to Industrial to get off of Hesperian, but there are trucks back there. Going by the college is pretty sketchy, feel like the frog in Frogger sometimes, and the kids sometimes try to squeeze you for fun. If you are going north by the airport, I highly recommend the parallel street that runs in front of the houses.

Mission Blvd after 92 isn't too bad, but lots of glass on my ventures, then you still have to go west. Alameda Creek is a nice way to do that.

"Hey Boyyy! Hey Boy! Lookin' good in them spandex, Boy!"<== My abject fear of hearing these words being shout at me whenever I ride through bad part of any town. Luckily, that hasn't happened. Just a few glares and honks, and my overactive imagination.
