NorCal and the New Bridge

Who knows when the new bridge will be cut in (Bay)?
And, bicycle path, will that go all the way into the city, or just over to the island from Oakland?
In the old days I walked and rode my bicycle on the Golden Gate bridge but Bay Bridge also would be nice. Anybody know?

The new Bay Bridge will allow ped/cyclists to reach the island from Oakland. Nothing from the island to SF. It's scheduled to open sometime in 2012. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

(check Caltrans for more info)

Edit: More on the bicycle access

Eastbound and westbound are to be opened about a year apart. I believe westbound in 2012, eastbounbd in 2013. I may have the order reversed and may be off by a year, but that gives you the order of magnitude

Bike path from the Oakland side to YBI only. I would not bet the ranch on bike access from YBO to SF on the bridge any time soon.

BART and AC Transit are currently available to haul you and your steed across, though. So are the various ferries from Oakland and Alameda.

They've been working on that thing so long, I'd second the "don't hold your breath" comment.

It'd be pretty cool to have a post-apocalyptic crit race on Treasure Island, though.

I didn't know that the work on the West Span (Treasure Island to SF) was done. https://baybridgeinfo.org/projects/corridor-overview

If I am reading this right, it means that we will be able to ride from Oakland to TI/Yerba Buena Island when the new East Span opens (apparently in 2012 or 2013 or later). What's interesting is that the bikeway will be on the south side of the bridge. For some reason I've always pictured it on the north side. Once they demolish the old East Span, the views riding to TI/YB should be pretty nice.

Looks like there are no immediate plans for a bike bridge on the West Span from TI/YB to SF, meaning that it will likely be 10+ years before we can ride all the way from Oakland to SF, if that project even happens during our lives.

Anyone know where the bikeway will start? Will there be an on-street route from West Oakland BART? Maybe some connector from the Bay Trail?

It'll probably happen before you can ride from Oakland to Marin on the Richmond bridge
